Target has been a long time friend of mine, and even more so when I started Couponing to Disney. Learn 4 Do’s & Dont’s Of Buying Disney GC’s At Target!
DO Buy Disney Gift Cards
When you sign up for a Target REDcard Debit Card, you get perks such as free shipping and 5% off your everyday purchases. Plus, enjoy an instant 5% off Disney Gift Card purchases! Disney gift cards are considered an entertainment purchase, and not a gift card. For each $500 purchased, it is a $25 savings after the 5% off. That’s like getting a FREE round of Mickey Bars!
DON’T use Target gift cards to buy Disney Gift Cards
If you have been Couponing to Disney with us for awhile you may recall being able to use Target gift cards to purchase Disney gift cards. Sadly, Target ended this and changed their policy in the Summer of 2018.
Do Limit Your Purchase
Many Target stores limit your purchases when using your Target RedCard. I limit my Disney Gift Card purchases to $500 or less at a time and space them out over time (every 1-2 weeks). Spreading out my purchases over time also helps to budget my trip!
DON’T Buy Physical Disney Gift Cards
There is nothing wrong with buying physical Disney Gift Cards, however I have a few reasons why I personally do not. As long as you have old Disney gift cards in good condition, you can reload them on Disney Gift Card.com, up to $1,000 per card. Instead of buying physical Disney gift cards, I purchase Disney e-gift cards. Two major reasons being, there is no chance of it getting lost or stolen in the mail! Also, I am impatient and like getting it quickly by email!
Do you know if Target limits how many you can purchase. I know it’s 3 at a time and we did 6 $500 gift cards to pay off our big family trip that coming up. I had each of my daughters that have a Target debit card also buy 6 (3 at a time) of the $500 gift cards. I purchased mine last Saturday and the money cleared my account Monday night. So I tried again today to buy 6 more $500 cards and it won’t let me. I called Target they said they don’t limit them to call my bank. I can’t call until tomorrow, but thought maybe you could give me some insight to this. Thank you for any help you can give.
I have never heard of this issue! I know that my bank is very proactive about preventing fraud and has stopped several of my legitimate purchases for suspicion. I appreciate their proactive approach, but it’s also very irritating!
We are also having issues purchasing more Disney cards from target. Hopefully they fix it.
So someone is selling $500 of target Disney gift cards. E gift cards for only $400. I can put this in my Disney app and use at the parks? Sorry just clarifying before I purchase!
So be forewarned that Disney only allows up to 3 gift cards or debit card at a time. Unless you consolidate your gift cards into 1. I had to pay for my tickets individually so I didn’t have to consolidate my cards.
Is that new or are you referring to POS within the parks/stores? I have always gone to the lobby of our resort to pay off whatever has been charged to our magic bands using my Disney gift cards and have used many of them at once (our last trip was May 2021).
Now do you only use your e-gift cards to help pay for your reservations or do you also use them at Disney as well? How do you use e-gift cards at Disney if that’s possible? Thank you.
I used e-gift cards last week at WDW. I took screen shots of each gift card, wrote the nickname I made for each gift card on the screenshot (so I could keep track of which card I was using), and placed them all into an album on my phone. It was easy to text a screenshot to my husband if he needed a gift card as well. And for any purchases in the My Disney experience app, I could copy the e-gift card number right out of the screenshot and paste into the My Disney experience app. For a family of 5 and 7 days at Disney, we used a lot of gift cards! When I realized I was going to run out and could use another, it was super easy to go to Target.com and order another. I hope that helps!
