Real-Life Inspiration
This eatery found in Disney California Advneture park is inspired by the real Carthay Circle Theatre, in Los Angeles, California. This theater holds a special place, as it was the first to debut the world premier of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Released in 1937, this was Walt Disney’s first feature-length animated movie, and a huge success.
Hollywood Dining Experience
Dining at the Carthay Circle Restaurant is a fine dining experience, reminiscent of 1930’s glamour and Hollywood’s Golden Age. Find décor honoring Walt Disney and his original animators accomplisments. The design of this restaurant was inspired by photos of the original Carthay Circle Theatre, built in 1926. In fact, even some of the lights and fixtures were manufactured by the same companies that made the originals in 1926.
Star-Studded Photos
The walls display photos of many stars, including Walt Disney himself with an Oscar. Find stars from 1930s-2000s with Oscars pictured on the dining walls throughout. An iconic photo to look for: Audrey Hepburn giving her congratulations to Julie Andrews on her Oscar win in Mary Poppins for Best Actress. Another iconic photo to look for is Walt Disney & Shirley Temple with his 1939 honorary Academy Award. This was received for his work on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and was specially made to feature one full-size Oscar and seven “dwarf” statues.
Main Dining Room Is Upstairs
Guests will enter the building and climb stairs to the 2nd floor, pass by photos of Walt in a grand hallway, for the main dining room. Once in the room be sure to look above the centerpiece to see a replica mural of Snow White’s forbidden forest. In addition to the main dining room, there are 3 other dining areas. These include the Hyperion and Buena Vista rooms (each seats 5) and the Premiere room (seats 12), these rooms are semi-private. The names of the Hyperion and Buena Vista, has a connection to Walt Disney’s past. These 2 were the street names Walt Disney had studio locations on.
Lounge & Food
This signature restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, reservations are accepted. Dine on American cuisine in a unique setting. Start your meal with the Fairytale Pumpkin Broth, Carthay Signature Fried Biscuits and more.
