5 Tips For Visiting Animal Kingdom In The Rain! We went to Animal Kingdom on day 7 of our Everyday at Disney adventures. It was raining and I was hesitant to go to Animal Kingdom since every single attraction there is outdoors but DINOSAUR, It’s A Bug’s Life and the Nemo and Lion King shows. But luckily as we pulled in the parking lot the heavy rain stopped and we just had a light drizzle off and on for the 2 hours we were in the park. Here are the things we learned from visiting Animal Kingdom in the rain:
1. The animals are more active – I’ve always heard the animals on the savanna are more active after a rain, but it didn’t occur to me that every. other. animal. would be active as well. So all of the exhibits that you pass between the entrance and Kilimanjaro Safari had animals running, squawking, playing, etc.
2. The animals are more visible – We were able to enter the park about 10 minutes after it opened and walk right on Kilimanjaro Safari. The guide commented multiple times “it is so rare to see them” or “it is so rare to see them moving around” all throughout the safari. We saw the lions walking about, the elephants grazing and an ostrich came right up to the truck. It was great! And even though there was a light drizzle, the inside of the jeep remained dry.
3. Gorilla Falls is a must do in the rain – If you want to see even more active animals, take a tour of Gorilla Falls after you finish the safari. We saw gorillas sleeping right up against the glass and two others were dining on their breakfast. The birds in the aviary were flying about and easier to spot with the guide they give you.
4. Everest and Primeval Whirl operate in a light drizzle – Both of these outdoor attractions were operating even though there was a slight mist to the rain. My husband says it wasn’t that comfortable coming down the steep drop on Everest with rain hitting you in the face though.
5. Boneyard closes the slides – Due to the rain, every single slide in The Boneyard was closed. The dig site was open and since it has a cover it was nice and dry.
In this weather you would probably want to eat at Restaurantosaurus or Pizzafari since they are both located indoors. Flame Tree Barbecue only has outdoor seating.
Hope this helps you when planning your trip!
