Recently we had a birthday party for my son who turned 6. I made him an Oreo dirt cake instead of a regular cake because it went along well with our “construction” themed party. Look how cute it turned out when we put construction vehicles on top! It was a huge hit at the party, too!
- 1 package of Oreo cookies
- 2 packages of vanilla instant pudding
- 3 c. milk
- 16 ounces of cool whip
- 1 c. confectioners sugar
- 8 oz.cream cheese, softened
- Place Oreos in a large ziploc bag and crush.
- Combine instant pudding, milk, cool whip, and cream cheese together until smooth. (You can hand stir it but I suggest using a mixer to get all of the lumps out.)
- Slowly add confectioners sugar and mix well.
- Place a layer of Oreos in the bottom of a pan, then pour in the pudding mix.
- Top with crushed Oreos.

I made this cake for my son when he was 4 for his construction party. I bought a big Mighty Tonka Dump Truck and Mighty Loader (which were his presents from us) and I put the dirt cake in the back of the dump truck and in the bucket of the loader. It was awesome! All the kids thought it was cool and no one realized that the dirt was the cake until we served it. The kids loved it! I served it with a shovel and I put gummy worms and bugs in the mixture.

I made a similar “cake” last weekend for my girls’ birthdays. My difference is that i like to make more of a chocolate trifle with cake or brownie pieces layered in with the pudding. I bought new sand pails to serve it in and had gummy worms and flowers coming out of the top. Super easy and so tasty!

This is a fantastic idea! Could also make it look like a garden with carrots and a bunny for Easter.
