This question comes from my reader Kristina…
Are there better seats for staying dry on Splash Mountain? My husband seems to think that the back seats get the wettest, and I thought that the front seats get drenched more…who is right?

I love Splash Mountain, but I hate getting wet…so I wear a poncho. I usually have it with me anyways since I have the luck that if I bring it, it won’t rain and if i don’t, then it will rain. I may look stupid, but I get to enjoy the ride and stay dry! But I do agree with several others that at Disney World the left and usually the 2nd and 3rd rows are best

This is such a great question and I too have always wondered. Personally, I do think it’s where the weight is. I’ve sat in all rows on both sides and have been really wet sometimes, and not so much other times. I don’t care though, I think it’s my favorite ride.

If you can make it into the tunnel before another log comes down the drop, the back seat is the best for staying dry. If not, you’re soaked!! It’s hit or miss!
TC says
Fun fact, I once sat at the very front and didn’t get wet at all lol

We went to WDW last November, and were hesitant to ride b/c I’d heard you get so wet, and walking around in wet clothes did not appeal to me :) Thankfully, we decided to ride anyway. Our oldest two kids were in the front, and ds got the wettest, he was on the right – he didn’t come close to getting drenched though. DD and I were the 2nd to last seat, and we didn’t get wet at all. I was also told during the cooler months they turn the water flow down a little so people don’t get as wet? I have no clue if this is true or not though.
Megan says
You are right- there are actually jets that shoot water at you from the sides, but they turn these off during cooler months. ;)

Thanks everyone! And thanks Kristin for posting! We are going in the winter, so we won’t have the strong Florida sun that would normally dry us off in ten minutes, and no one likes wet denim…yuck!

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t matter where you sit….you WILL get wet !! I’m living proof !!
Katie says
The front rows and the right side gets the wettest. That’s always where my kids are hoping we sit!
Debbie says
At Walt Disney World: The front row right side will get you soaked, unless there is a really small child in that seat. Then the second row right side will get it Hope this is helpful and enjoy your time there!!!

At Disneyland I always sit in the last or second to last seat, and I’m always the driest when we get off. But I usually wear a hoodie, prop my feet up inside and duck on the last drop. My 10 year old sits in the very front, and comes off drenched, every. single. time. ;)

When I ride in the very back, I dont even get drops of water on me. When I sat in very front, I was completely drenched.
Wendy says
I agree, that’s how it is for me. I was the lightest in the boat and got by far the wettest. When I sit in back I don’t get much.
Jean says
At the ride at Disneyland, I think you have more control in the front. You can duck and then the folks behind you take the brunt of it. Now that I have kids, ducking isn’t always an option. Also, all the water flows to the back of the log on that steep uphill climb.

On the Splash Mountain in Disneyland the group I rode it with was all probably very similar in weight and every time we rode we all seemed to be equally wet when we got off no matter what order we sat in
Cindy says
Good question!! Not sure though,, I always thought it was where the weight was in the boat got the wettest….becuase I am always the one who gets drenched on those types of rides and it doesn’t matter where I sit…and yes I am usually the heavest one in the boat… :(

The 2nd to last row is good. I didn’t get really wet when I sat there as when I sat in the front row and the back row because you get the begin/last of the big splash that usually gets you really wet.
