Did you know that there are Horse Drawn Carriage Rides at Walt Disney World? You can choose a ride at either Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground or at Port Orleans – Riverside. Each carriage fits up to 4 adults or 2 adults and 3 small children. The cost is $45 for 25 minutes and can be booked up to 180 days in advance by calling 407-939-7529.

Since my daughter has been to Walt Disney World almost 10 times (and she is 11!), I figured she had seen and done it all. We always want to keep it new and fresh so she would keep wanting to return. (and then I would get to go back too……you see how this works?!) So this year, we decided to do something we had never done before: a carriage ride!
We stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort and happened to see a horse drawn carriage taking riders around the resort. Not knowing that we had a ride scheduled for later in the week, she was perfectly giddy at the sight! We took her to the Port Orleans Riverside for dinner and then surprised her with a ride of her own!
The carriage ride starts at Port Orleans Riverside, right outside the doors of the Riverside Mill Food Court. Right on time, we boarded our carriage and were on our way! The carriage took us along the Sassagoula River, where we looked out at the plantation-style mansion homes of Magnolia Bend and the beautifully manicured grounds. Being from Louisiana myself, I felt right at home! The carriage then took us to the Port Orleans French Quarter resort, where we rode along the cobblestone streets, reminiscent of the French Quarter itself. We rode back the Riverside resort, where we said goodbye to our driver Pierre and Drummer and walked back to our resort. Some great family memories were made that evening and taking the carriage ride at dusk just added to the ambiance of the charming Old South.
Carriage rides last approximately 30 minutes and cost $45. They can be arranged by calling the recreation number for Disney at (407) 939-7529.

I was considering doing this on our trip, I didn’t realize you would need a reservation. Are they hard to get? Should I call today?
Linda says
Yes but have not done it

Thanks for the information. This sounds perfect! O.k. time for the silly ? are there 2 hotels? Port Orleans and P.O. Riverside?

Yes, Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter are the two resorts. Sometimes I just see them listed as if they are one “Port Orleans”, or abbreviated PORS and POFQ.

Is there a limit to how many people can ride in the carriage? Sounds like something I wanna do on our next trip.
Joanna says
Four adults can ride, or two adults and three children. At least I believe that’s right.

My husband and I took this ride with my parents almost 6 years ago. It was the end of February, so we were able to walk up and get right in, and the price worked really well since there were 4 of us. It was a very pleasant trip, and I would definitely do it again. Although, I think I’ll give Fort Wilderness a try first. :-)
