To count down to Christmas, I take 24 Christmas books and I wrap them up and put them under the tree on December 1st. Each day, the kids pick a book to unwrap and we sit by the tree and read it together. The very last book we unwrap is our beautiful copy of The Night Before Christmas that we read on Christmas Eve.
If you want to start this tradition with your kids, start looking for cheap Christmas books now. You can pick them up at garage sales, thrift stores, even the clearance sections of popular stores. If you want to get be really thrifty, you could go to the library on November 30th and check out Christmas books and wrap them up and open them first. Just make sure you open them before they are late because that makes this very unthrifty (just invented a word there).
Do you have a Christmas countdown tradition?
Oh my goodness! What a wonderful idea :) I am starting this tradition for my little guy this year for sure. We even have that same Night Before Christmas book. Thank you so much for this!
I was thinking that you could do this with Christmas DVDs as well. Maybe like one or two a week would be good instead of everyday. Christmas movies are the best!
I think this sounds like a great idea and I think we are going to start it this year. My son loves christmas books and this sounds like a great tradition to start.
Good heavens that would be a lot of wrapping! I hate having to wrap presents, let alone a book a day
