Do you ever look at your vacation plans sometimes and go man- I’m spending so much money on this, when I could be doing that? I’m not even talking about using vacation money for adulting. I am hoping to see some dear friends in Toronto soon. Flights to Toronto? Cheaper than this trip. Hotels? Similarly priced. We won’t need to rent a car. Food will be cheaper than the DL portion of our trip. Conclusion? It’s cheaper to go international, than to fly from one side of the country to the other. My cheapness is raging.
There are so many wonderful things to do in California- San Diego is amazing. Disneyland will be a ton of fun. I have friends in California I’m also hoping to see. It’s just a bit of vacation doubt creeping in. This is where I always say man- I wish I could win the lottery. I would do so much traveling. Does your family ever play the “When I win the lottery game?” It’s a favorite of my family. Unfortunately, you have to buy tickets to play and I buy maybe 3 tickets a year- just when the money gets insanely high and everyone in the world also buys a ticket.
It doesn’t help earnings were lower this week. I have taken some craft orders and the money from that will go into the fund- but first I have to make the items! I’m waiting on a huge special panel to payout, and I’m close on a few other things. We also scored a few deals that don’t really “count” in my savings, but that help us have fun. I ran to Big Lots and grabbed our free movie. It had a digital copy, so that’s an extra score- my daughter has a new movie loaded on her fire tablet for road trips! I took advantage of the Subway offer we posted, combined it with another coupon, and scored dinner for the family for $2.38. Can’t beat that! I also scored some pretty good deals on groceries and gifts. I guess it’s weeks like this I have to look at the big picture. Sure, maybe my actual earnings weren’t awesome, but I’m still out there saving money and taking care of business!
If my friend Kristen B. came to me and said “KD, I’m bummed. I worked as hard as I could and I only made a few bucks this week”, I’d be the first to cheer her on. A few bucks is better than NO bucks. Slow progress is still progress. You get the drift. Why are we so much harder on ourselves? So, before you see the pitiful amount of dollars I made this week, I want to remind you, and remind me- We are killing it. We’re already ahead of the game, because we are budgeting, we are earning, we are saving money to pay for our vacation, rather than putting the balance on a credit card and hoping interest doesn’t kill us. Every baby step we take is a step towards our dream- owning a house, being debt free, going on vacation.
