It’s time for the very first deposit to the Disney fund! I’m so excited! Every week I will be detailing each deposit to the Disney fund. I might add money to it throughout the week, but you can definitely count on a deposit every Thursday (this is the day I go to the bank). I have not yet come up with a goal amount, but I will let you know when I do! I have some more money floating around the house (spare change, etc) but I haven’t had time to count that. Here’s what I do have:
$5 – I was opening mail and I received $5 in cash to complete a survey for Neilsen TV (they also included the survey. I was paid in advance). I assume they got my information when I applied for the Neilsen Homescan Panel. It was 5 of the crispest $1 bills I have ever seen.
$15 – My birthday is on Saturday and my sweet grandmother sent me $15 for my birthday. I decided I’d rather spend this money on souvenirs on our next trip. I saw so many things I’d love to have at Disney World.
$17 – My husband had to go to a meeting today and they pay 58.5 cents a mile! They also round it up to the nearest dollar. Isn’t that awesome?
$37 added to the Disney fund! $37 saved since June 3rd.
Tara,
I opened up a separate money market account at my bank. It was only $10 to open. HTH!
I just wanted to ask ,(you may have already answered,I haven’t ready the entire site yet) Did you open a checking or savings account just for your Disney fund?
Hi Ladies,
I found another way to add money to our account! Unfortunatly it’s against their rules to post a link or whatever on facebook, myspace, blogs, etc. I was reading this other blog and this women said out of all the survey places this one was her favorite.
So if anyone is interested, send me a email at [email protected] and I will forward the link to you.
As Kristin as proved, every penny counts!!!
ohh Jeananne that sounds like a great idea….maybe i could trnsfer that to homeschooling as well like a penny a page or something!!!! great idea!!!!
So, I have been struggling with my kids fighting with each other and I have tried so many varieties of a positive reward system. They work for a week, then they go back to acting up. Well, I showed them your disney fund and gave them both $10 so they could have their own Disney fund for souvenirs (we are going in October). I told them they can earn more money by behaving and if someone is mean to each other (say something mean or hit), they have to transfer $1 from their fund to the other person’s fund. It is really working!!! Thanks for the inspiration!
I am starting my fund. I have 9.40 from opinionoutpost. After we get back from my mothers next week, I will really start hitting it hard. I am planning on taking 10.00 a day from my tips(Im a hairstylist) to fund most of it. By this time next year, we should already be back. Thanks so much for inspiring me..
Yahoo!! DH got called into work last night for an accident and that’s OT! So that rarely happens for OT, that is found money for me! That will be going into our Disney Fund! Not sure how much, but it’s a good start!
WTG everyone on their savings. Nice start to your fund Kristin. We go to Disney in less then 4 months, our trip is paid for, and I’m stil working on adding to our fund. Love hearing how everyone is doing!
Love it! I just opened a separate account at my credit union to save for our Disneyland trip – we are about 18 months away – should be plenty of time to save up the $1800 we need! I tried doing it with our regular account but it was too easy to move around (and what I had was spent on new tires – bleh) But here’s to a fresh start!
How do you do surveys and get money for them? I’ve never heard of this before!! Please inform me on how to get started!! Thanks
Yay! The $0 was so depressing.
Thanks for the link. The two malls in Illinois aren’t close enough to take advantage.
Melinda,
It’s different all the time, sometimes you will watch a movie trailer for like $2 or other times you taste test products.
Awesome! We’re leaving for our very first trip next Sunday– cannot wait!
What research surveys do you do and do you have any information to give on how to start doing these? Thank you for such a wonderful site. I am hoping to do the same after we get back from our Disney trip next week.
Unless you make over a certain amount doing surveys, mystery shopping and such, you do not need to claim this as income. I think the amount is $600 and that is just from one company. If you make say $50 from four different sources you should not need to report it.
Hi Guys,
I haven’t done this in a while, but there is a field research place in my mall called cunningham research, they do some small survey’s for $5.00 -$10.00 ( in person) I haven’t done them in a while, I actually forgot, but one time both my husband and I went to taste potato chips and got paid $25 each. I found them online, all of their locations. Maybe be worth some of your while to call and see if they have any open surveys that they are looking to fill. Mine is located right in the mall, so I’m going to start stopping in again.
Here’s the link to the locations, there is another one, and I will look to see if they have other locations other than NJ!

so far for disney $757.93 hopeing to go end of nov 2011 for a family of 7!!!!!
Happy Birthday mine birthday is also Saturday!! My kids know what a disney fanatic.
Wow. You have just made up my mind where I am going to put my $2.19 check from a rebate, into my new Disney fund savings account.
So glad to see you posting again :) I started my own disney fund and even decided to purchase the $2 GC from restaurant.com for the Garden Grove @ Swan and Dolphin. I am starting a binder to keep Disney deals in. I currently have $54.57 in our disney fund and am making another deposit early next week. I am anticipating $71 in rebates so far and have been plugging away on my surveys, trying to build it up. Thanks for the inspiration to do something magical for your family without even trying too hard to do it :)

I started my Disney Fund also. I have $46.85 this week. I finally cashed out from Inboxdollars. I also had rebates from Rite Aid & from my Oil change. When I was at Disney in April I bought a souvenir bucket of popcorn. That has become our change jar. I said I won’t cash it out until we get to the top of Mickey’s hat.
Just got a text from my husband that he was given a $25 off coupon for the new Tractor Supply opening up today in our little town!!! Wow!! Pig Food for our pigs and $25 for the Disney Fund deposit next week!!
Oops, that should say $16 a week into the account, not a month.
Another way I am saving is through sacrificing. Every morning, my husband buys both of us a 44 oz fountain soda before work. I looked at the receipts and divided it by 2, and then added up how much I am paying for fountain drinks every week. It came to $8! Woah, that sounds like a lot, doesn’t it? I thought about it and said, you know, that would put $32 a month into our Disney fund if I go without that drink. I get coffee free at work, and we have water fountains, plus I have a good bit of crystal light from Publix BOGO sales, so I can buy coffee creamer as part of my grocery budget and put that $8 every week into the fund. In 12 months, that will put $384 into the account. If only I could convince my husband to do without also, then we could put $16 a month into the account and in 12 months put $768 into the account!! Is it crazy that this is how much money you would spend buying 1 fountain drink at $1.60 every weekday morning for a year??
YOu have inspired me to start a fund of my own. Though it wont be a Disney fund. It will be a debt payoff fund. Our goal is to have my car and possibly another loan paid off by the end of the year.
Deposit: $3 from Pinecone Research
$7.99 from Armor All Rebate
$4.60 left over from daycare
$15.59 deposit.
I have been able to put back $247 just since 5/21. That includes $40 from payroll (I have $20 a pay period put into savings just for Disney), the $55 I have saved in coupons (I figured that this would be an easy way for the fund to grow), $73 in loose change, $20 from Lightspeed, $34 from other sources such as what is left over from our regular budget. $4 from other sources came from winning $5 off of a $1 lottery ticket! Good luck to everyone out there saving to get to WDW!!!!
You have inspired me to start my own fund! Thanks so much for all you do and for all the great deals. We are retired so these deals really help with expenses. Now we are planning our own trip to DW next year! Thanks again,
Susan.
Way to go! You’re so inspiring!
I’m waiting on about $40 in rebates to come back so once it does it’s going into the fund. I currently have a whopping $6 in it.
do you treat this as an income and file taxes? some you make and some you save, and if I do this I would be worried about tracking it properly.
gonna go to the bank today wish me luck!when i get back I will come post my first deposit!
We have about $60 in our account! I am waiting to set a budget amount when the new year rolls over since they do different deals every year.
I made a seventy dollar deposit this week. It was a bunch of rebates and the loose change from around the house.
Great start! I am going to sit down tomorrow and figure out our first official deposit. I am so excited and have told all of my friends to follow. They all want to go to Disney but don’t think that they can afford it. I am trying to get a goal for us to. This is also a great summer math activity for my son. Best of luck:-)
Way to go, Kristin! I’m right with you saving and planning for our next trip too. We just got back from a week in Disneyland. Our family had such a wonderful time! In fact, we are already planning our next trip. But we tend to go every three years instead of yearly. This gives us enough time to save and plan for a really nice vacation where we splurge and stay at the Disneyland Hotel. Plus, right now there are so many changes happening both at the Disneyland Hotel and California Adventures. It should all be completed by the time we go again in three years (hopefully). So here’s to my saving for the next three years. It seems like such a long time, but it really does go by fast. At least that’s what I tell myself and my family. Ha Ha! But the wait is worth it for the ultimate end goal – a week at the Disneyland Resort.
we think we would get bored every year ( probably not we’ve never tried) so we go every four years we are do for one in sep 2012!!!
Think you’ll ever coupon to anywhere else? :) I think next year we might just coupon to a CRUISE! 6 months into our saving for Disney this year and we’re already nearly fully-funded! Just a couple hundred more to go! Yay!
Not bad for your first week! Glad you had a good trip and I’m sure you’re already ready for the next trip.
I’m gonna round up all my loose change tonight and make that my first deposit as well! Wont be nearly as impressive as your deposit but its a start!
You have got me so focused! I have made over $60 this month just in surveys. Finding pennies and throwing them in a Disney jar…
going to the bank next week to open a “Disney” savings account where I will put all the money in. I appreciate your tips and look forward to saving right along with ya! :)
Girl you are serious about disney..Good to have a goal. We leave for Disney in 2days whoohoo!! Next year we will do dianey cruise heard great things.
God Bless
Wow! That’s great. You are definitely inspiring me to really try this out. I just need to figure out how when we have only a part time salary coming in.
woohoo! off to a good start!
I was wondering when you were going to start that up again. Way to go!
