I was looking forward to this restaurant for so long but was some what disapointed with the lack luster food and our server was not very entertaining. The atmosphere was amazing and the 1950’s detail was so entricate and thoughtful. Maybe if I had not had such high expectations then maybe I would of not been so disappointed. We would only do this restaurant again if we had no other options for a spur of the moment meal.
My husband and I along with our then almost three year old daughter ate here in December 2009 and it was incredible. We were celebrating our anniversary and they made it very special by taking our picture and creating a card for us along with a free dessert. The food was probably the best we have had in all of WDW and the grapefruit cake and my husband’s chocolate dessert was almost too pretty to eat. We even took pictures of them. Our daughter fell asleep before our late lunch arrived so it was as if my husband were on a date. When we talk about what restaurants to return to, Brown Derby is always first on our list.
We have eaten here and absolutely loved it. The service was great as usual with Disney, and so was the food!
I personally like this one because it reminds me of the old I Love Lucy TV episodes where Lucy is trying to meet stars while dining at the Brown Derby. They are noted for their Cobb Salad named after and invented by Brown Derby founder Robert Cobb. We took advantage of our Brown Derby dinning experience by using the free Fantasmic priority seating – w00t-h00t!
My only CAUTION with this restaurant – it is pricey. I would only recommend going the Brown Derby if you are on a Disney meal plan of some sorts.
This is a TRUE Signature Dining Experience! I will admit, when I first walked in, I was less-than-impressed, because in our state you can just go to a Brown Derby like any other ‘chain’ restaurant. I was MISTAKEN! The food was superb, especially the duck & the grapefruit cake dessert! But, MOST importantly the service was IMPECCABLE!! You were treated with great respect, never rushed, very attentive staff! I would recommend to all!
We ADORE the brown derby! This is one of the places we eat at EVERY time we go to disney. The cobb salad is phenominal- all the entrees we have ever eaten there superb and the deserts- divine. I always get the Grapefruit cake. I rarely finish it but dream about the cake for months when our trip is coming up. We have someone we request every time we go and he remembers us. He is so knowledgable about wine and so welcoming- I can’t imagine not going there to see him!
We ate there in Sept 2009. We were told that if we ate there it we could get reserved seats to the show that night. We did!!! It was awesome!! It was hard giving up 2 table service meals, but it was nice to have good seats for the show (wish I could remember what that show was called!)
The steak here was seriously the absolute best steak my husband and I have ever had! Even though it’s pretty pricey it’s definitely worth it and we’ll be going back there the next time we go to Disney without a doubt!
Dining here is like stepping back in time. The food is wonderful, the atmosphere quiet and romantic, the staff is great. The pork chop meal was our definite favorite along with the chopped salad.! I have booked it twice, both times for the fantastmic dining package, and both times it was worked out fantastimic!
I made the ADR at my 180 date and later booked it with the fantasmic package. We didnt wait at all to be seated. We were attended to promptly and got ice water without asking, which is great! The salad arrived with the fanfare – the mixing & chopping table side – almost like a show unto itself. Each course was delivered in a timely manner. The pork chops came out and oh my – just delicious, juicy & yummy!
For dessert, of course, we had the grapefruit cake. I also got all the recipes I could. I make the salad at home, it always seems to be lacking something ..probably disney magic!
Did Dine with an Imagineer in 2005 at the Brown Derby. Have the menu in our scrapbook. The individual Cobb salad had vegetables cut as a tropical flower. In my photo, it looks a bit like a Bird of Paradise on the salad. The meal was wonderful. We were given a souvenir plate signed by our speaker.
My husband & I ate here April of 2008, celebrating 5yrs married & our son on the way. I had made reservations. We sat right away. Our food was great! The ambiance was good too. There were children there, and the restaurant was packed, but it didn’t seem crowded or loud. Our waitress was fantastic. She told us there was a call for us- it was Mickey, wishing us a happy anniversary! I had ordered a personalized cake for my husband. They brought it out, and it was the wrong flavor & not personalized. The waitress apologized up & down. She went back to correct the cake. The cake took a really long time to get there. Our waitress finally came out w/ a beautiful cake. She had the pastry chef make it special & certainly was. Over and above what I could have imagined. Because it took extremely long to get the cake, the waitress took 20% off the whole bill. A gracious gesture that was unexpected, and much appreciated. Disney always does it right.
Best Cobb Salad EVER!
I ate here once a few years ago when I was on the dining plan. I thought the food was excellant and the service was good too. I probably won’t be eating there again any time soon though because of the price, and there are so many Disney restaurants to try. However, it is worth the money if you have it and want a nice dinner (or lunch).
Loved it!! We went here on our last night in Disney and it was fantastic!! We had a wonderful table overlooking the entire resteraunt. The menu was limited but everything we tried we loved. Also liked the sampler drinks, I had one that included several mini margariatas and my father had one that contained different red wines. I have children who are extremely picky and the kids menu was great for them as well!
Love Hollywood Brown Derby and have used it as part of the Fantasmic package too! We ate there the first time during our first anniversary trip. Loved the Grapefruit Cake! :-)
I’ve been lucky enough to eat here twice, and it was excellent both times! The Cobb salad was invented at the Brown Derby, and it’s a classic. The steak and fish entrees I’ve eaten were delicious– I recall one appetizer involving braised pork belly that was amazing (that was back when the Dining Plan included appetizers). My daughter ate with us there on one occasion, and though I don’t recall what she had, I remember being impressed with the children’s menu selections. The grapefruit cake is another classic Brown Derby offering– not my favorite, but my sister and mother raved over it both times (I’m a chocolate gal myself). The atmosphere is a huge part of the draw– it evokes old Hollywood in nearly every detail, from the attentive staff to the caricatures of all the stars on the walls. If they aren’t the originals, they’re amazing reproductions! I highly recommend the Brown Derby– it’s worth using two Dining Plan credits to experience the golden age of Hollywood!
Yep we were to do whatever it took to make sure everyone left happy no matter what that required!!!!
We ate here last year and the food is very delicious…like a four-five star resturant…….. So you can imagine not the best place to take little ones. The decor is definitely for adults and no characters. Our kids were 6 and 7 so they did fine. We did the Fantasmic Event and were disappointed when they said they didn’t have our tickets.(we had made reservations in advance for the Fantasmic Event. My brother, needless to say, was quite upset and the manager luckily “found” us tickets. We were happy and the Fantasmic show was great as always. Disney wants people to be happy!
The cobb salad is amazing… The owner of the brown derby is rob cobb and that is who created it !!!
I worked here for almost 4 years !!!
