Here is this week’s deposit to the Disney fund:
$5 gift card to Target (took $5 in cash out of the grocery budget to put in the fund and spent the gift card)
$4.54 in spare change
$9.54 added to the Disney fund. $1422.79 saved since November 12th, 2011 (see past deposits here). My goal is $3,000. Likely going in Jan 2013.
I want you to learn how to grow your own fund too! If you are new to couponing, start with the Getting Started Couponing Series, followed by the How To Start Your Fund series. Remember you can use these savings principles to save for anything you want from Disney trips to paying off debt to buying a new television. As the great Walt Disney said “If you can dream it, you can do it!”

Ive been wondering what your plans are for your trip?? I’ve been wondering when you will book your trip and if you have your ideas on what you’re doing yet. I’m trying to decide if we are going to be able to go in November. Kinda been wondering what you will hit on your next trip! Give us a glimpse into your trip planning so far!!!

I really need to count and see where I am at, I have a jar that has nothing but my change in it, and then a safe that has all of my cash in it. I’m not sure where I am at, but I’ve found “found money” not a whole lot, like pennies or dimes people dropped at Wal-Mart’s parking lot, and I added my rebates that I received in the mail to my deposit, I’m excited. I haven’t saved up a whole lot, I know I’m at least at $250 almost to five hundred dollars! I’m really excited. I’m even saving up Wal-Mart Gift Cards right now though for Christmas, so I’m excited for that as well!

How do you keep yourself disciplined enough to swap the cash for the gift card and not spend it later. Seems I am always fighting to keep my account growing instead of spending the “extra”. Do you have any self discipline tips?

I don’t follow these tips yet, but some of the ways I am going to use to help make sure I don’t spend my fund is to do either of these things:
1. Vacation club account: most credit unions will have one of these accounts and you can only draw from his quarterly. Or, you can do a christmas account and can only draw from it in November without a penalty. I think a $10 penalty to withdraw money would keep me from withdrawing!
2. Go ahead and book with a travel agent (if you are saving for Disney) that will allow you to make payments. Most of the time, the deposit is just $200. If they are willing to take payments at any time, every time I get that extra money, I would have them put in the payment for that amount. That way, I definitely can’t touch it!
I have a hard time myself. If we are in a bind and I know I have money readily available, I have a hard time not using it. It’s hard to get yourself in that frame of mind to ignore it and think about what you would do if you didn’t have that money available.
