So I’ve give a quick overview to what we did on our Disney Magic Cruise. Now I am going to spend the next few nights breaking everything down even more. When we booked our cruise, we let our travel agent pick where she thought the best spot on the ship was. She chose the 8th deck for us. I was unsure if this would be great or not, but it turned out to be PERFECT!
The 3rd and 4th Deck are where most of the inside dining and entertainment are located. Childcare is located on the 5th Deck. The 8th was perfect for us because we spent a lot of time on the 9th Deck. It’s where all of the quick service dining, pools, and fitness center are located. The drink station that is open 24/7 is on the 9th deck as well.
We loved having out own private verandah that we could enjoy. I also loved having the sun light coming in the window during the day. Can you imagine being inside a hotel and never seeing light? This is something to consider when you book your cruise. Location makes a HUGE difference.
We are a family of five and didn’t have a ton of options on room size. You can’t book a room for 5, and squeeze the kids all in one bed…doesn’t work like that. (Although that is what we do when we travel and use regular hotels!) When we first walked into our room, we saw one bed and a couch. I was a little panic’d about this, as I knew we were supposed to have beds for all 5. The state rooms aren’t huge and we went right to work putting away our luggage. There is nothing under the bed and if your suitcase is softside, you can probably store it there. Ours was not. We nested our suitcases together and they were easily stored in the closets.
In each state room, you have two bathroom areas. One is just a toilet and sink, the other is a sink, vanity, and shower/tub. This room also has a retractable clothes line. We packed a few extra things to help with our storage organization. First, we took an over the door shoe holder. We put anything from shoes, to sun screen, to hair bows, to lotions and more in the pockets. This worked great to keep floors and counter space tidy. We also packed clothes pins so that we could hang all of our suit each time we came in from swimming. (I didn’t trust putting them outside on the verandah on a chair as the wind might sweep them off!) We also brought extra hangers for the closet. The closet already had a ton in it, but wasn’t enough for everything that we could hang. By hanging the shirts/dresses, we were able to have more drawer space for socks, underwear and such.
There are tons of drawers in each state room, but they are either narrow, or shallow. You can’t store a ton in them. Another item I would suggest bringing is an octopus plug for your electronics. We had to charge one in the bath room and one at the desk, I would have liked to charge my computer, camera and other items as well.
Each night when we went off to diner, our room was made ready for the evening. Trash was always emptied and our beds were turned down. The couch made into a twin sized (or a tiny bit smaller then twin) bed. One came out of the wall above the couch, appearing like a bunk bed. And last, one folded from the wall by the verandah. Each kid had their own space.
We also were surprised with a fun Towel Animal each night and chocolates! YUMM! It felt so welcoming and inviting.
Overall, I will say that we slept and changed clothes in our rooms but that was about it. We truly spent most of our day on Deck 9! If you think of any questions you would like to know about the Stateroom, I will do my best to answer them in a comment below this post.
Would LOVE more info on the “kids sail free” deal – we have 5 kiddos!!
Yes what is kids sail free?
I am going on the Dream in May and had a couple of questions: does the bathroom have a hair dryer, is the verandah big enough for 4 people to sit comfortably, and do I need to bring ear plugs to block out noise? We are on the 9th deck so I am glad to know that we just have to walk out of our cabin to get to the pools, fitness room, or a restaurant.
There IS a hair dryer, but it’s awful and takes so long to dry your hair. Take your own! The Verandah is big enough for 4 adults. There is a couch and a chair as well. It wasn’t noisy at all…so I would say no need for the ear plugs.
Another idea for a family of 5 is to get two connecting oceanview cabins. We do this and put the kids in one room and hubby and I take the other room. It’s nice because there are two showers and twice as much room! If you have young ones that still nap, they can nap and you can still do your thing in the connecting room. It works out to be less expensive than a veranda room unless of course you are lucky enough to score a kids sail free deal.
(This is Courtney…and I DID get the Kids Sail Free deal!!!)
Loving this series! I am planning our first Disney cruise for Sept. and I appreciate your tips!!
We just came back from a 3 night on the Disney Dream. We are planning a 4 night for this October on the Dream again and then a 5 night on the Wonder for the following year! This was our first time on a cruise and we had a blast! Looking forward to reading the rest of your posts!
By the way, not ALL rooms have 2 bath areas. On the Magic and Wonder the Deluxe rooms have the 2 and the standard rooms only have one.
Very helpful thank you I am currently planning a Disney cruise your suggestions were great!
I love this idea about the over the door shoe holder! Fabulous! We always have a million little things to corral when on vacation, and what a great way to keep them all together!
