Check out this awesome email from my reader Jennifer:
I was going through some things today that I had found when my father passed away a few years ago. He had saved a Disney Magic Kingdom admission ticket from 1977 (which was $17.00 at the time!) I was 3 years old at the time of this trip, and I can remember some bits and pieces of this trip. It looks like at the time, Disney gave out tickets to ride the rides, which was $9.50 for a book of tickets.
I thought you might be interested in seeing pics of these!
This is so funny that you posted this. We just returned from Disney and while on the trip we were discussing these tickets. My mom was there on opening day and she was telling me how they use to get one ticket per land to ride a single ride. What a way they have come!
I grew up by Disneyland and we had drawers of the A,B,C and D tickets, lol!! Then we had a friend that started working there and he could get us E tickets!!! I went to Disney World in 1977 but it was Military Appreciation month (or something like that) so we wore a badge around our neck and only paid like $17 each for the day.
I have some from 1972. I really miss the Main Street attractions in particular – The horse cars and Omnibus!
I also have these same tickets somewhere in my saved Disney box. The first time I went was in the 1970’s. I believe that you had to have a ticket to ride the ride. Once you redeemed the ticket you could not ride it again. We cherish those old tickets as they bring back great memories.
I remember those days. I was 17 in 1977 and the park had been open a few years. We savored those E tickets cause there weren’t many in the package we bought. Wow, how far things have come since those days!! Thanks for sharing this and for the memories.
This is a great piece of Disney memorabilia. Notice the E tickets were for the best rides in the park. That’s where we get the phrase — “E ticket ride”. Definitely something worth keeping and preserving.
