Did you know that you can easily open any jar with a teaspoon? My husband recently taught me this and now I don’t have to ask him to come open something in the kitchen. Just get a regular teaspoon and put it under the lip of your jar. Then push your spoon handle down so the actual spoon part pops the seal of the lid. Kind of like you are jacking up a car… that is how you do the handle of the spoon. Once the seal is broken, the lid unscrews easily.

I just put a rubber band around the lid. Works every time.
I have always used the old style can opener. It’s a bit sturdier than a spoon and the pointed end really gets up under the lid of the jar. However, I still ask my husband to help when he’s around. Gotta make him feel important, right?
My mom actually cut her hand with a spoon doing this when I was young, just be careful where you position yourself. The rubber grips for the lids work so much better, and you can even pick them up at the dollar store.
Careful with this one — I’ve bent a few spoons doing this.
