Just past this man on Peter Pan who was chewing out the cast member because we were going through the fastpass line. I’m sorry dude that you had to wait wait an hour while I waited five minutes. I wonder how often Cast Members get chewed out.
Fastpass causes attitude

Was at Disney World last month. My 6 year old told a cast member thank you for cleaning the table off at the restaurant and the woman turned to her and said “You are so sweet! You are very welcome princess.” I was watching this and thinking that my daugther was using common courtesy the way she was taught. But I noticed a few tables over a man was being rude and demeaning to this same woman. It made me realize that she probably did not hear appreciation very often. We made a point to purposefully show grace to others around us from that point on. We tried to make eye contact with the cast members, smile and ask them how they were doing. You could see the difference it made and we were able to use the experiences to teach our children that this is how God wants us to treat people every day. “Treat others as you would like to be treated.”
So sad that people actually go to WDW without doing their research. In this case, Fastpass is actually mentioned in the park maps so when people are clueless it is their own darn fault. Those who understand the system should not be subjected to a bad attitude from those who don’t. So sad you had to see that.
Although my husband doesn’t work in attractions as a CM he gets yelled at all the time, everyday. As a previous poster said most of the time by someone trying to get something for free.
The unfortunate fact is that there are stupid, rude, people in every part of life. Including at the happiest place on the earth.
more times then you can count!
My friend works there…shes is often amazed and annoyed with peoples attitudes.
The sad thing about this is that this man more than likely yells at checkout people when something rings up wrong or a store is out of stock. If he is that grumpy on vacation at Disney, I would hate to see him with the stress of everyday life.
We had a couple people make comments to us going though the FP lines. Not sure why, it is available to everyone. If you don’t use it that isn’t our fault. We just ignored them, CM can’t do that though. Too bad, there are pleanty of people who their behaivors should be ignored, yes…even at The Happiest Plave on Earth. I don’t get it, stop and smell the roses you know???
It’s so sad that people get angry about things they don’t understand. I also feel very sorry for the cast member. I also work with the public and it is amazing how rude people can be to someone that they don’t even know. Once you have worked in a customer service position, you become a much better patron.
So sad…sad that he is so grumpy and sad that he feels the need to yell at the cast members who are working hard to ensure everyone has a good time. Maybe he should get a fast pass too :o)
The fastpass is awesome! If people don’t use it – oh well. I’ve even tried to explain it to people and they argue that “waiting in line is part of the experience.” Huh? I come to Disney to ride, not to wait!
Amazing how some people act in such a happy place LOL
how many fastpasses can you have at one time?
Unfortunately, that is the norm for anyone who works in the public. Whether, it’s Disney, Walmart or the bank. There is always someone that wants to gripe. You just learn to not take it personal, I know, I’ve been there. If I worked at Disney, I think I would just be laughing inside at that “dude” thinking, “You are just totally make a jerk of yourself and ruining your (and his family’s) vacation.”
Yeah for FASTPASS!!!
Love all your post! Making me ache for my trip at the end of February.
That’s too bad. I don’t like people like that especially at WDW. We’ve got the FP system down pat and I love it. But you know, if you are going to take a vacation somewhere do the research. I see alot of people frustrated in the summer (we got every June) when they walk up and try to get into a sit sown restaurant. What? It’s been booked for 3 months? I think some people think it’s Disney I am entitled to get whatever I want when I want it.
On Xmas day (2010) while standing in line for Woody & Jessie, we overheard another family explaining FPs to the family in front of us. They were totally clueless!!! I could not believe that someone would be at DW on Xmas and NOT know! Who shows up on Xmas without researching even a little bit??? I still can’t comprehend this! As you can tell I’m a major planner! My MIL (the wing-it vacationer) was convinced after this trip that sometimes it is better to do your homework! I’m sorry but that just goes under the “stupid people” category!!!
I feel really bad for the Disney Workers, but I am sure at some point they become used to this kind of behavior, even if it’s wrong. The one part of me wants to believe the guy did not understand about fast passes or this was his first trip. Maybe he needs to get more sleep at night, I always want to understand why people behave the way they do. He acted poorly, which doesn’t make it right, but you have to wonder ” what is the guy thinking?” Sorry you had to experience this on your trip Kristin. Hope you continue to have a wonderful time.
Some people just don’t know how to act, at Disney or at home. GRRR
That’s ridiculous! Where is his Disney attitude? Everyone is suppose to be happy! Even if you have to wait an hour. We waited close to TWO HOURS for Soarin’ (which was insane) but we were all happy even waiting. What a jerk!
When we went last July we had a woman tell us off when we did the fast pass and I said look anyone can do it with the ticket. I guess a lot of people still don’t understand the way it works.
we even knew to get fast passes on our first trip back in 2007!! serves the guy right for having to wait, but i feel sorry for the poor cast member! bet they get attitude from guests quite a bit! i’m sure they probably develop quite a tough skin after some time!! how can anyone have a bad attitude at disney world??
Some people get more enjoyment out of complaining than anything else. Sad, but true. Shame on him!
How sad. =( Those poor CMs, many of whom are college kids, put up with such awful attitudes! I stood in line at Harry Potter World at Universal with two girls who were CMs at WDW…they said people had made them cry by being so ugly to them. I hate that people saw his adult meltdown…what a terrible example for the kids who were nearby.
Unfortunately as a former cast member you get yelled at for everything under the sun. People seem to forget that cast members are people and they don’t deserve to get screamed at for something they have no control over. I’ve been yelled at for people losing things, spilling drinks, and… (this one tops the cake) moving the monorail station to confuse someone (at Animal Kingdom LOL)
I can’t even tell you how hard I am sitting here laughing at the thought of someone seriously saying you moved the station.
Yup! I had a lady pull my hair once because she couldn’t see name tag. People are nuts!
It seems like Disneyworld can bring out the best or the worst in people, especially if it’s hot.
I often wonder what would happen if (by some strange fluke) EVERYONE happened to get a fastpass at the park one day. Exactly how fast would that fastpass be??? LOL
Ferdumb! Did he forget he is at the Happiest Place on Earth and should be nice. If I have learned nothing else from having a child with special needs I have learned that honey gets you more than lemons!
I’m with the group who votes “how could you *not* know about fast pass? It’s in all the brochures, the machines are clearly marked (usually with lines of their own!), Fast Pass has it’s own line to get in, it’s on the website, etc. Luckily we have never seen anyone get mad because others have used fast passes!! All these people have to do is ASK.
That man must have not know about how Fast Pass works. Some times you just have to be patient and wait your turn.
I hope Cast Members get trained on how to deal with this. Sometimes nothing you say makes someone that upset feel any different.
It never ceases to amaze me how rude people can be. We have a son with autism, and long lines and being grouped in with people is very hard on him, thankfully Disney realizes how special our little boy is and offer a special pass to kids with disabilities that let them either stand in wait in a different area or in some cases, skip some of the line (like for certain meet and greets). Last year we took our son and were at Disney for 6 days, during that time we used this special pass a grand total of 7 times -we only used it when we absolutely had to, we went during the “off” season to skip a lot of lines and used Fastpass where available. Sadly people very loudly made rude comments about it on two of the times we used it. It was very hard to just focus on my son having fun when people were glaring at you or complaining about our family to CM’s. I cannot thank Disney enough though for all they do they realize how much harder my son has it every day of his life and for a few magical days they do their best to make it just a bit easier on him.
That is so sad that people have to be so rude. Anyone can use fastpass. Maybe he should have done a little research about the secrets of WDW before going and learned about fastpass.
While nobody was getting upset, we did hear quite a few comments when we were at Disneyland. We used FP for Indiana Jones, Space Mountain and California Screamin’ and people in the other line couldn’t believe we were just walking by them.
He might just be angry at himself for just wasting time in line and had no other way of expressing his anger? Bummer for him.
Why is this man even at Disneyworld? Come on, everyone knows this is the
busy time and you will have to wait.
Why is he getting mad when he’s the silly one not using fastpass? Silly
I just don’t understand when people don’t use fast passes. They are so easy to get. I feel sorry for the cast members when things like that happen.
I’ve seen it happen way too many times for my liking and I have friends who are CM’s at WDW and it is amazing how rude people can be…oh the stories I’ve heard. It really is shameful!
Some people are so rude. When my father in law and my husband went there a few years back, my father in law was in one of the parks ride on scooters because of his disability, and people got mad because he didn’t have to wait in the regular line.
The same thing happened when we were in Peter Pan fastpass lane in Nov…this guy was totally cursing (in front of kids) at the elderly CM. Appalling…
I don’t understand how people can be so mean at the happiest place on earth!!!
How can anyone be at disney and grumpy at the same time?
I thought everyone knew about Fastpass?!?
It’s sad when you are unhappy at Disney! I always hate to see parents screaming at their kids, or to see kids in tears. It’s too bad this man didn’t strap his humor bag on today!
That makes me sad! :( It happened when we were last there 5 years ago too. Lots of grumbling because we had a fastpass and the line was insanely long for the regular riders.
People have the same opprotunity to do exactly what you are doing, but they either don’t know or choose to wait….really, I feel bad for the castmembers who have to deal with people that get mean.
Maybe if he had a really good Disney agent, he wouldn’t have to stand in long lines! Just gotta know the ways dude!
We saw quite a few angry faces last week. Hope you’re having fun!
As a former City Hall CM, I can tell you that it happens every day and for reasons that may seem silly to you and I. But, unfortuantely there are guests who take matters a little to seriously. There are also PLENTY of guests who just want to scream and complain at cast members beacuse they think they may get something “free” out of the deal. Oh well…to all of us patient people, just remember that the cast members put up with way too much nonsense for way too little pay and are usually there working at Disney out of love and excitement.
That’s so sad to me. I’m sure this happens a great deal and there’s nothing magical about a tongue lashing especially one that isn’t deserved.
I’ll never forget – our first visit to Animal Kingdom – we must have walked right past about 200 people waiting in line for the Safari … we heard comments – they must be special!… why do they think their so special? Ummm… no, just put my tickets in the machine out there about an hour ago – about the same time you got in this line. Oops! I hope you guys are having a wonderful time! Definitely jealous about your weather compared to ours the second week of December! Brrr.
next time, hand him one of your Couponing to Disney business cards :)
He probably has not been happy the whole trip! It is sad what some of those poor cast members have to listen too. Glad you are having a wonderful time! Wish we were with you. I can’t believe you are doing your site from Disney! Boy can u mulit task. Not me! Thanks for all you do for us and even on your vacation! Enjoy and have fun! Your pics are awesome!
I had someone cuss at me like that once because they took me in the handicap line at Peter Pan. I had waited there awhile too but because my line was shorter I guess he got mad even though I probably waited as long as he did to actually get on the ride… I was like DUDE I will trade you your legs for my scooter and handicap lines anyday!!! And yet I can even understand that guys arguement more than someone getting upset over a fast pass line!!! Getting upset because someone used a fast pass is just stupid!!! LOL
HA! Too funny! I love your site! My daughter loved watching the character parade at O’hana’s–I can’t wait to take her there!
What a shame that people get upset about little things and take it out on someone who has nothing to do with it. We all need patience and understanding for others. Most are probably stressed or over excited and take out their anxiety on some poor innocent person. I learn by reading others posts and believe that I am responsible for my own behavior and can always be kinder to someone else. Enjoy your trip…many blessings to you and your family.
I’m always amazed by how clueless some people are. If you just look down at that brochure they gave you at the ticket window or available eveywhere you have all of the information about how to use fastpasses. I wonder how they got to the park?
I agree with Diane that if you yell at a cast member you should go to the back of the line. That would teach them! Too bad for the cast members because they work so hard trying to give everyone a magical experience. Unfortunately, there are way too many grumpy people who act like the world revolves around them and when they don’t get their way, they act like a spoiled brat. I find it funny how at the Happiest Place on Earth, there are some adult meltdowns worse than a two-year old’s. Really all we can do is ignore the childish adult and instead thank the cast members. Or if a castmember goes above and beyond the call of duty, then please go to City Hall on Main Street and have them recognized for doing a great job. “Please” and “thank you” go a long way in this world.
I went to Disneyland this year (first time since i was a child) and had a blast. I didn’t use the Fast Passes, but wish I did so that I could have got to go on more rides there. We went on almost everything, but was there from opening to closing.
And that guy probably does actually blame himself, and that’s why he’s so upset. Don’t you think you get the maddest when you’re really mad at yourself?
We were last in line to meet Princess Tiana and Naveen last summer. This family kept trying to go under the rope after the cast member had closed it. They finally walked away. When we finally got to Tiana, the family was on the exit side chewing out the CM. You can hear them (cussing included) in our video. Thanks for the memories!
Even if it’s your first visit to Disney, you should know about the Fast Pass. How can you not know about the Fast Pass?! If you are planning a trip to Disney and want to make the most of it, do your homework. It’s not that hard to make the most of your time there. It’s the Happiest Place on Earth and he should have been kicked out for yelling at a Cast Member. Every time we’ve been to been to Disneyland in CA not only have we asked for pointers and hints from the Cast Members, they are more than happy to share them with you. They are by far the friendliest customer service oriented people around.
Just because that guy didn’t do his research. The only person that he really should be blaming is himself.
how could someone be at Disney and not know about Fastpass?
I know, I’m like, dude, have you NOT seen all of the Fastpass signs everywhere?? Some people just have to find things to complain about, even when they are supposed to be enjoying themselves on vacation!
I can never understand how people can be mean and grumpy when they are at the happiest place on earth!
It does happen too often. I saw it twice on our trip. But like the other commenters – if they would research their trips they would know how to “work it” too!
Sadly it happens too often. We had a nice talk with a cast member about that very thing (and people who flip out when they shut down the character lines).
It happens all of the time!!! We talked to several cast members during our last trip and that stuff like that happens daily! Shame on him for acting stupid…….
It’s really sad that they get chewed out for things like that, but I bet it happens all the time. Some people just don’t know how to chill…and, besides…my concern would be “how could I get in that line??” rather than complaining that I’m not!
Exactly! Instead of chewing out the cast member, he could have asked him to explain what that line was and how it works.
If you yell at a cast member, you should have to go all the way back to the end of line. That would teach the grumpy man
Agreed!
so true but in all fairness they could get a fastpass as well!
Never thought about that but I bet they do get cussed at and chewed on all day for the fast passes cause no one actually investigates and plans their trips like so many of your readers do!
That’s so rude!! He had the option of grabbing a F.P., but chose to stand in the regular line. That’s not the C.M.’s fault. I feel bad for them because you know they have to hear quite an earful.
People like that drive me crazy! I would have going to the cast members rescue and told him that I can go ahead of him b/c I paid extra to be able to! Ya’ll keep having fun!
Rachel – I don’t think that is the right attitude. First off you don’t pay extra to go in front of him (at Disney World that is), and second of all how is that “in the Disney way”. If you really want to help him, offer to explain how he can do it on his next ride.
It’s Universal/IOA that you pay for the fast pass option.
telling them you paid extra won’t help the cm at all!
Sadly, it happens too often. DH and I were on our honeymoon at DL where they do FP very differently, (hand out more, but merge you in earlier) We saw quite a few people chewing out cast members because we’d pass them.
I’ve seen at WDW security have to defuse an angry guest that didn’t like people going down the fastpass line.
The man probably should have done a little research prior to his trip and maybe he might have known to use a fast pass rather than wait in all the lines :-)
Karma….
