This tip comes from my reader Sarah….
I save money on hand soap by buying the Dial Complete Foaming pumps for all our bathrooms. Instead of refilling them with the Dial refill soap, I put several drops of dish soap in and fill it back up with water. It still foams and uses a lot less soap (plus several drops of dish soap is much cheaper than a Softsoap or even Equate refill bottle)!

I understand trying to save money, but the water can actually grow bacteria like that.

Can you provide a link that shows that is true please?

I do the same thing, Kristin. I just make sure that I use filtered water. Besides, my family and I blow through soap so quickly that bacteria would have no time to grow anyway. :-) Additionally, every soap is made with a preservative to stop the growth as well.
