Well, what a week, eh friends?
If you are like me, homebound without a gym to call your own, you might be wondering what your fitness journey looks like moving forward. Technically, I think my gym may be open but the schools are closed and the Glass Slipper is home with the other two, so it’s time to do a little mental rearranging about what my fitness routine looks like.
Because even in this time of high stress, maybe especially in this time of high stress, it’s important to keep moving, keep positive, keep going after those endorphins. Having a routine, a schedule, a sense of purpose will make these days at home feel a little less claustrophobic.
Let’s jump on it. Last post, I shared about how I spent a month data gathering my fitness levels. What was my lowest step day when I wasn’t trying very hard? What was my highest step count when I was doing my best? I wanted to see the highs and lows so I could accurately pick steps goals for individualized day. Ultimately, the goal is 10,000 steps every day, but some days that seems to be easier than others. Lucky for me, I find myself with a little time to really deep dive into that data.
I wanted to see my progress for specific days of the week each week. How they progressed, or did not, by the week. So, I made some helpful charts and graphs, because I am a true nerd when it comes to charts and graphs.
Mondays
So Mondays, the average of all my steps was 4177. The difference between my highest day and my lowest day is only 605 steps. I’ll probably keep my step goal for this day within the range of my best day for this month with a 600 step increase goal for the month after.
Tuesday
For Tuesday, it looks like I was pretty consistent except one day I was a major achiever. My average was 3528, with the difference between best and worst day being 648 steps. The good news is, after that second week I was able to increase my steps every week, so I achieved my goal…even if it was just by two or three steps.
Wednesday
What was going on with me Week 7 that I was hitting it out of the park?? Wednesdays were a little more of a roller coaster, with an average of 5116 and a difference from worst to best of 1832 steps. Wowzers.
Thursday
Hey, random Week 9! Way to jumble those expectations on Week 7 always having the best day. My average here is 4893, with a difference of 2366 steps. That’s a crazy difference. I take back my “wowzers” from Wednesday to use here. Wowzers.
Friday
Friday is easily my best day. I usually get to the gym, then go for a walk with my friend. Mr. B’s day off is on Friday, so I’m able to take some time to myself. I’ll still have the most ambitious step goals on this day, since I have the most opportunity to push myself here. Average is 7521, with a difference of 2241. Wowzers. Part 2: The Return of Wowzers.
Saturday
Routinely my worst day. Don’t let the one day I was trampling around the woods fool you. Even before looking at these numbers I knew I had to up my Saturday game. Average is 6417, and a difference of 9639. Too Wowzers, Too Furious.
Sunday
Sundays I am able to get some workout time in, to varying success. I’ll keep pushing myself on this day, because I like heading into a new work week feeling strong and capable!
Here are last week’s steps. I tried really hard to add extra activity where I could this week. Doing a dance video or two on YouTube in between making meals or helping the kids with various things. Normally during naps I try to get in my app and earning time, but I took a few minutes away from that to do some cardio. When I checked the mail, I added an extra trip back to the house and down the driveway then back up again. ( This may seem small, but I have a long driveway.) I’m going to keep looking for little adjustments to make moving forward. I didn’t have any “big” exercise days, but I did what I could.
Week 11
- Monday, March 9th: 4501 steps
- Tuesday, March 10th: 4343 steps
- Wednesday, March 11th: 5089 steps
- Thursday, March 12th: 4574 steps
- Friday. March 13th: 5044 steps
- Saturday, March 14th: 3942 steps
- Sunday, March 15th: 5457 steps
Total Goal: 35000
Total Steps: 32950
For next week, I am going to determine:
- my step goals for specific days during the coming month
- what the increase will be the month after that.
Right now is a great time to stay busy with projects and tangible goals.
What are your step goals? What do you think my step goals should be? Do you like getting into the nitty gritty or are you more of a go with the flow type of exerciser? What little adjustments do you make to add steps? Let me know in the comments!
