Have you ever heard of Aldi’s? If you haven’t, you are missing out! Aldi’s is a unique grocery store that only carries about 1400 frequently purchased items, the majority being Aldi’s select brands. You won’t find 10 different varieties of cookies in this store, but you will find 1 or 2 at a reduced price.
Aldi’s keeps their overhead low to make sure that you get the biggest discounts as possible. Here are a few things that Aldi’s does that is different:
- You will need to either bring your own bags from home or you will have to purchase them in the store. You also have to bag your own groceries!
- You have to deposit a quarter into the shopping cart to ‘rent’ it. You get your quarter back when you return it to the corral.
- They do not accept credit cards but they do take debit cards and EBTs
- They do not accept coupons
Here are the things that I always purchase at my local Aldi’s store:
- Loaf bread
- Milk – 75c to $1 less than Walmart but it does expire faster
- Cheese
- Produce
- Baking supplies
- lunch meat
Aldi’s offers a double guarantee on all items they sell. If you aren’t satisfied with a product you had purchased, they will replace it and refund your money. I love that I can shop without having to worry about the quality of a product.
Each week Aldi’s runs an ad from Wednesday to Tuesday. Usually their ad consists of ‘Special Buys’ that are one time deals that Aldi has purchased and offers at a deep discount to their customers.
When I start my weekly shopping trips, I always hit Aldi’s first before going to the other stores. You never know what awesome deals you are going to find!
Go here to see if you have an Aldi’s near you. If you do, I highly suggest you make a special trip to your store to check things out. You won’t regret it!
If you are a regular shopper at Aldi’s, be sure to let me know what your favorite items are!
(Thanks Definitely Deals for your help with this post!)
Also forgot to mention their weekly specials for Non-grocery items. You can get some steals here too!
I love Aldi’s. Love the produce prices especially the strawberries and pineapples. 0.99 cents for a large carton of strawberries and usually pineapple too. It’s nice to have such great prices so you can eat more fruit and veggies. It’s crazy good when you can save a dollar or more for one produce item. I also buy my eggs, bread, cheese, canned goods, chips, condiments, and they have the best fajita mix seasoning hands down! Try it added to some dried pinto beans. It’s awesome. Try their cordon bleu chicken and broccoli and cheese stuffed chicken – 99 cents per individual serving. They are individually wrapped and sold in frozen section, so you can buy as few ir as many as you want.
I’ve learned that as long as I’m buying the Great Value brand milk at Walmart, they will match Aldi’s price.
I find the milk, eggs, cheese, yougart (which is the best I ever had!) is cheaper, and they have the best prices in produce too
We go through more then $200 in milk alone each month so I go to aldi’s because they are more then one dollar cheaper than any where else.
Produce! Produce! Produce! My husband and I eat 90% whole plant-based foods and this is the most economical place to buy it. I use 8 lbs of carrots, 2 stalks of celery, 6-8 cukes and a bag of apples each week just for our morning “super juice”. There are times when the produce section is picked over and the only items left look “sad”. Just ask them when the fresh produce is generally put out and hit the store shortly there after.
The Winking Owl Cabernet is shockingly good – it’s well balanced and pairs great with a wide variety of dishes or is good to drink alone. We also love the Aldi brand chocolate bars. It’s similar to the quality of Ritter chocolates but a fraction of the price!
My gf and I love Aldi’s! I’m not ashamed to admit as two students with minimum wage jobs, and my health issues we recieve food stamps. We have found that Aldi’s is cheaper than anywhere else. We buy almost everything we eat at Aldi’s and the quality is just as good as the name brands. The only gripe I have with Aldi’s is I wish they’d introduce more items on a regular basis. BTW, the frozen french bread pizzas are AWESOME!
Aldi’s is a great store!!! I always buy fruits, veggies, and milk there!!! An additional great buy is microwave popcorn — a great price!!!
Aldis do not take coupons.
I love Aldis! When we lived in Chicago it was right down the street from our place so we would get the majority of our stuff there. Now we moved back to FL and the nearest one is a pretty far from me. Hoping they plan on opening more stores in my area!
Where do you get the ads and coupons for Aldis
My husband thinks their milk is the best.
we shop at aldi’s all the time. we have tried a lot of their items: olive oil, spices, herbs, milk, eggs, cheese, fruits, veggies, yogurt, juice, bread, chocolate, potato chips, ice cream. we’re kinda skeptical on there beef & pork. but we have tried their frozen chicken & mussels.
Their frozen fruit is great too – perfect for smoothies!! I always buy their yellow rice, canned soups, and canned veggies. We drive about an hour to get to the closet Aldi (central FL) but it’s worth it.
I absolutely avoid Walmart at all costs – I actually send my husband there for things like dog food/cat food/rabbit food, vitamins and OTC meds. Everything else I shop at Aldi’s and Publix for. And I LOVE Aldi’s. Love, Love, Love it. We’ve never had complaints with any of their products (my sisler-in-law says the frozen hamburger is knuckly, so I get the fresh ground). Their produce at my store is hit or miss, but I stock up on potatoes, onions, and carrots since they are hardy veggies. Their fresh large pizzas are the BEST and the kids love their $1 frozen pizzas. I always go there 1st for my shopping before I go to Publix. Plus, since they only carry about 1400 items, I can get in and out of Aldi’s in less than 20 minutes.
I too shop there for my staples. I love the price of their milk. The canned goods are pretty good (veggies, soup, etc) & cheaper than I can usually find elsewhere.
I also always stock up on their pizza. It’s better than Tombstone, and it’s cheaper! We’re a huge frozen pizza family (usually at least a couple times a week with our busy schedule- and we can easily use up to 3 of them for our family of 6- so, $2.19 each is awesome!)
I always go here first, then go to Strack’s for all the things Aldi doesn’t carry.
I too love Aldi’s. Someone may have already mentioned it, but don’t forget you can box your groceries. If you forget your bags or don’t want to buy some you can use boxes off of their shelf. My kids love to help scout out the empty or close to empty boxes as we are shopping. Recycling that saves you money:)
I’m starting to realize that bags aren’t even all that necessary. They don’t have bags at Sam’s, and I rarely think to bring my own or use a box. I just load up the stuff in the card, then in the car, then home. I guess it depends on how much you buy and how large each item is. I love not having to worry about gathering up all the bags after a Sam’s trip, though!
I love Aldi’s. I buy all of my staples there and love their frozen ground turkey rolls for $1.39 each. It’s great it chili, tacos, spaghetti. I buy all my bread, milk, sour cream, and we love the tortilla chips! Their juice is usually a good price, too. The also have some great spaghetti sauce. There is a cabernet one, not there all the time that is awesome. Also their guacamole rocks! I could go on and on…it’s a great place to shop and a huge money saver for me and my teenage son.
We are getting an Aldi’s here in Huntsville, AL – opening soon – can’t wait. I like to try different grocery stores and am looking forward to trying this one.
I always buys my milk there. But the milk is only .40 cheaper than Walmart. But I still go there because I will buy 4 gallons at a time and if I am lucky it will last a week. I have 2 guys that loves their milk. The dates of the milk always has a longer date on it than at Walmart.
We LOVE Aldi’s cottage cheese. For some reason, any other cottage cheese doesn’t taste right to me. Also the big pizzas that are comparable to the pizzas you find in the deli cases at Tops are only $6.something and they are DELICIOUS! I also stock up on my snacks like graham crackers, go-gurts (moo-tubes), applesauce and such for the kids at half the cost! I get all my staples from Aldi’s also. They’re garlic toast is one of the only garlic toasts I can cook without it sticking to the pan or each other and being a big buttery mess. The shredded cheese is way cheaper, and for more ounces per bag. Bananas and strawberries are always super yummy!
I’ve shopped at Aldi’s for 8 years now. I always start there when grocery shopping. My staples are bread, milk, cheese, cereal, snacks, canned veggies and fruit, pasta….. OKAY… I digress, the majority of my shopping is done at Aldi’s. I usually have to stop at Meijer to grab a couple things I don’t get there, but I love my Aldi’s trips!!!
wish we had one closer our closest is 30 miles
One just opened in my city! so excited
I totally LOVE their powdered sugar. Yeah, silly, I know. But it’s so much smoother than any other powdered sugar I’d purchased, and cheaper! I decorate cakes and this is just a must have for me!
I have to agree with you Denise. I also decorate cakes and i ALWAYS get my powdered sugar at Aldis. The price is right and the taste in my icing is better than the other national brands.
go to aldi’s once a month….diced tomatoes,evaporated milk,mushrooms and snack food…great stuff…
We love Aldi! Our favorites are milk, bread, fresh produce, and certain frozen things. The fresh produces has always been very nice and low priced. Lately they have had very nice strawberries for 99 cents a container! Sometimes the have other berries are super low prices too. It’s definitely worth it to check in there once a week and see what they have. Lots of times they have name brand stuff for really cheap!
Also – starting this week our Aldi had Easter basket stuffers – these usually don’t last very long but among the deals were Cars diecast cars for $2.99 and Disney Princess Barbie-like dolls for $7.99. We saw the same dolls at Target for $10 and up.
We shop at Aldi every week and our bill for our family of 4 is usually around $40 (we do plan out our meals in advance and make a list that we stick to – I do go to the regular grocery store to buy a few things that Aldi does not carry). The only things so far that I have not liked are the boxed mashed potatoes, the coffee, and the microwave popcorn. I do buy bananas here because they are so cheap but they definitely don’t last very long so you have to eat them quick. Haven’t had any issues with the other produce items. The deals on cereal can’t be beat and I have found that chips and other snacks taste as good as the name brands. We use ground turkey a lot and they sell a very lean ground turkey for $2.49 here in Ohio – typically runs around $4 at a regular store, and often not as lean. I really don’t understand why some people refuse to shop at Aldi, they are just throwing money away!
We shop at Aldis once or twice a month. Milk is usually always $1.49/gallon. My son lovs the tortilla chips. They are only $1.19/bag.Beats $3.00/bag. I would highly recommend Alids.
Try to go there as often as I can,but was frustrated lately because their ad always came in our Sun. paper and then it was missing for a month and with Aldi’s there is no local phone you can call to ask anything so finally I randomly found out there ad is now online only and before you couldn’t find their ad(only special buys)online. So now I’m back in business. Anyway I love their sweet pickles, tortilla chips, and produce. I didn’t know their milk didn’t have hormones in it-is that for all locations? So now I might start getting my milk there too.
We love their sirloin steaks that are Cattlemen’s Ranch brand. They come four to a box, are individually vacuum wrapped and are in the frozen section. They only cost $6.99 for a box of four and my husband says they are the best steaks we have ever bought! My son likes the pre-made, frozen black angus beef patties that they carry by the same brand as the steaks. We pay $5.99 for a box of 6 1/3 pound patties.
we dont have an aldis close by that i know of-we do have a save a lot that sounds simular in the way they run but ive only ever been there once-how do you think they compare???
Didn’t read through all of the comments, so this may be a repeat, but did you know that Aldi’s is run by the same company as the famous high end Trader Joe’s? Aldi’s sells some of the same products! You can find some great deals at Aldi’s.
Actually, Aldi is owned by the same people that own Trader Joe’s — a couple of brothers from Germany.
Aldi says on their Facebook page that there is no relationship between them and Trader Joes. Would be nice though!
I love their marinara sauce. We also buy butter, cheese and eggs their. During the summer months we always get our hotdog and hamburger rolls there. My husband operates a seasonal snack bar and he even uses the rolls their as well.
I love Aldi! I am always so please with thier produce section. I went this week and got all my fresh produce for the week ( we use ALOT) and only spent $30. I sometimes buy my produce at Meijer when I get my other groceries to save on time, but I always regret it. The produce at Aldi is almost half the price and tastes so much better. The strawberries this week there are awesome!
We really like their meatballs and at $1.99 a bag you can’t beat the price. I find the produce hit or miss but the milk is always a great price. My store isn’t really close by but when we are out that way I make sure we stop and pick up a few staples.
im a regular shopper there. I first do my drug store runs, then my target run, then i make a list out on the Wegamns site(they allow you to see the prices of EVERYTHING in the store),compare to Tops ad,shop at Tops for what I need, hit Aldis next and then whatever else is left,I do Wegmans. Its practically a full time job(after my real one of course),but its truly saving us some money.
We absolutely love their frozen pizzas! They are similar to a Tombstone pizza, but run about $2-$2.25 each. I always have a couple for a late night munchie, they are really tasty! They also have these frozen chicken patties (like for sandwiches) that taste exactly like McDonalds southern chicken sandwiches. I LOVE them!
I go to Aldi occasionally when my favorite stores don’t have very good sales. I love their garlic and herb marinated chicken breast, and their spaghetti sauce! Also, they have a great price on their whole grain white bread. We have 2 stores, one of which is a new “green” store and I prefer to shop at that one.
I just noticed the price of milk in the picture and…WOWEEE…where are those milk prices at? I complain about the price of groceries alot, but I guess I should be glad I live in dairy country.
We always buy our bread, milk, produceand sometimes ground beef there. I love Aldi’s, but we don’t have one close to us so I don’t go as often as I would like.
I got a great jacket at Aldi. I always get compliments on it whenever I wear it. I rarely tell that I got it at Aldi. I also have bought the kids’ snow boots there for the past several years. It’s true, you never know what you are going to find!
I go to Aldi about once a month and stock up on sugar (1.68 for 4 lbs.), fresh fruit (pineapples for $1, strawberries 89 cents, blueberries 99 cents) and milk. Great deals. I haven’t tried any of their store brand items but curious if they are any good?
I have an Aldi’s around the corner from my house and I love it. I buy all of my staples there and have found that their chips are as good as the name brands. We prefer their spaghetti sauce over all other brands. I usually buy their featured “produce of the week” and plan alot of our meals around that. It is much much cheaper than Walmart! Do be careful though and check expiration dates because they don’t seem to rotate their stock as often as they should.(I grab all of my dairy/meat products from the back). I always put my quarter and my bags back in my car when I get through shopping. It’s no fun to get to Aldi’s and not have a quarter for a cart or have to buy bags because you forgot yours!
We dont have one close but when i get a chance to stop by the one about an hr from home and buy cooler items then i always stock up on their string cheese, yogurt, cheese and some of their frozen items such a tilapia. Their produce is always cheaper then other stores.
I ♥ Aldi’s!
Growing up in Northeast Ohio, Aldi’s is where my Mom would go for groceries… and I just continued the habit when I became a wife.
Now I live in Southwest Florida, and until late last year we didn’t have an Aldi’s! We had a Save-A-Lot and a Walmart, but man, when Aldi’s came to town {only a block down the street from Walmart} you’da thought a bank was giving away bundles of hundreds by the way the parking lot filled up! Of course our Walmart is still busy as usual, but I have never passed by the new Aldi’s and not seen their parking lot completely packed.
The only thing I don’t buy at Aldi’s is usually their produce. Their frozen pizzas are just as good as pizza from our local Little Caesar’s, the canned goods and baking goods are perfectly fine, hubby loves their lunchmeat, and I love parking in the parking lot and not getting my car dinged by carts left carelessly rolling around!
I also lovelovelove! to see people bringing their own bags to bag their groceries. I sure do wish more stores would catch on.
I love the Sweet oinion salsa (in cold section) also the milk is a great price. we love the thin sliced pork chops…have never had a problem with anything we bought. I do Aldi and Publix as my 2 stops each week.
Another thing I like about them is that their milk is hormone free, and your not paying extra for that!
I just got home from a trip to Aldi’s. Bought some new products to see if the kiddos like them. Hopefully they do, because the prices are great!
When I am looking at the ad prices for my local grocery store, I always compare them with Aldi prices to see who is cheaper. I figure the price minus a coupon I may have. Usually the staple items are always cheaper at Aldi.
I love the bagged salad, string cheese, hummus, whole grain white bread, cream of mushroom/chicken soup, turkey ham, canned black beans, and mexicorn. Aldi is a definite way to stretch your budget. But, you have to be careful, because you can get carried away with the low prices and have a cart full! :)
my daughter and i are ADDICTED to the clancy’s veggie chips. i usually have to refrain from eating the whole bag in one sitting. i also usually buy all my canned goods, baking supplies and lots of produce there as well.
Love Aldis always by my eggs 89cents! We are gf but do stock up on produce and their frozen tilapia. Then other staples milk, sugar. This past week I got myself a dozen roses for 1.98,they are still looking great 4 days later.
i am a regular at aldis. i usually buy items that i cant get cheaper at walmart with coupons. here are the thing i usually get there.
salad
fruit and vegis
milk
eggs (if not on sale somewhere else).
before i started couponing i used to buy everything at aldis. i have never had any problems with any of their products, if something i need isnt on sale or i dont have a coupon for it, i will buy it at aldis.
I for got to mention, paper products: Paper cups, napkins, paper towels, I always stock up on these! Also the big tin of iced tea mix, very economical! The only thing I ever bought there and wasn’t really pleased with was the cinnamon rolls that are like Pillsbury’s, just didn’t float my boat! Wish I had remembered about their return policy, but everything else I have ever bought there has been great!
I have shopped @ Aldi for 20 years now. When my kids were little, I would go with a couple of other Moms with kids in tow so we could help one another with the bagging and all. They used to take cash only. My youngest son still remembers that we would leave our quarter in the cart when we returned it and watch to see the response on the face of the next shopper who got a cart AND a quarter! They have the best tortilla chips! I buy all my staples including flour, sugar, sour cream, milk, bread, buns, butter. Great way to save some $ even if you only go once a month.
I always buy the Clancy’s brand packs of indiviual chips. so much cheaper than the Frito-Lay packs! I save about $3.00 on each pack! My Son says they are just as good as the others. Also, like the frozen stir-fry bags. Really good!
