What is up with these cheap, expensive costumes?? Emily’s costume ripped right out of the bag and my mother in law fixed it and it ripped again at school today. At least she can wear her cheerleading uniform as a backup. But how crappy is that???
So my question is… will your area be trick or treating on Saturday or Sunday? We will be trick or treating on Saturday night.
We had trick or treating at the businesses downtown on Friday night and the door to door ToT is Sunday night.
The Woodlands Texas…reporting in. We trick or treat on Sunday.
Last night we went to a fall festival at our church, (FL) and tomorrow (sun) we will go out for a little while. Last year I bought smaller pumpkin buckets so they fill up faster and makes the night go quicker but the kids still feel like they really scored.
I live in Royal Oak, MI and we are offically trick or treating on Sunday. Although we have been to several events where the kids have had the opportunity to trick or treat. It has abeen a crazy but fun Halloween month!
We are attending a festival at our church tonight and tomorrow we will probably go trick or treating. We usually go to the same neighborhood each year, and my kids love it there. Most of the people have kids that are teens are there abouts and they really get into it, with decorations and dressing up themselves. One family plays the Micheal Jackson Thriller video on their garage door with a fog machine and everything. The kids love it.
We trick or treat here in Utah on Saturday as well!
As for the costumes, I bought our from the disney store and the quality is superb! I have even had to wash my girls Alice costume 2 times since she has gotten in dirty, and even the glitter has stayed on! I spent $29 on it, well worth it, and she is even going to wear it to Disneyland this year too!
Here at Fort Jackson, SC they told us trick or treating is tonight. We might hit up a trunk or treat tomorrow since my husband can’t go with us tonight
We are having one huge neighborhood trunk-or-treat on Saturday and them I thought I would take my little guys, all dressed up, for reverse trick-or-treating (we take the treat) to some of our elderly and “shut-in” neighbors on Sunday. Trunk-or-treating is nice, but I miss old fashioned door-to-door trick-or-treating.
Sunday night for us. My daughter is 12 now but we had the same issue with costumes and dress up clothes. My mom got crafty and started buying up small sized prom dresses at Goodwill and thrift stores. She added straps to the strapless ones and took in the shoulders of the others. She bought some purses, gloves and scarves then found a really cute trunk to store them in. It was her favorite Christmas present that year and likely her least expensive! She got these when she was 4 and they are all still in great shape! We added crowns with some dresses (princess) and another year found a veil (to be a bride), it covered us for atleast 3 halloweens!!! We’re saving them for her daughter someday!
Most Trick or Treating near Allentown Pa is on Sunday. The hours vary by times in some areas. I hate cheap costumes. I try and buy better ones at Gymboree or The Childrens Place.
We are celebrating on Saturday with a trunk or treat. My neighbors and my family are going doing the Wizard of Oz. We are decorating my neighbor’s big truck as the house. It will be my son’s first Halloween and he is going to be a flying monkey that has yet to earn his wings. (We couldn’t find cheap wings and I didn’t have enough time to make them so thats why!)
I live in Utah and the kids were trick or treating TONIGHT!!!
We live in Missouri and we will be Trick-or-Treating!! Might even go to some events tomorrow!! Have a great time everyone!!
Long Island, NY, here. Until this post, I had never realized that some people don’t trick-or-treat on the actual day of Halloween. We have never done anything but the 31st here! We plan to start around 2:00pm and be done before 5:00pm. The bigger kids come out around 6:00pm, and my little guy (26 months) will not be thrilled; he’s been scared by masks in the store this year!
We live in South Florida and our small town is trick or treating on Saturday. The good thing about the costumes is that I bought my girls after Halloween last year in the clearance section at Walmart for $3. So for $6 we got a Snow White costume and a Hannah Montana costume.
Our local fire department and police departments put on a trick -or- treating safety expo for the childron on Saturday night and we always end up with more candy that we can intake!!!! But, it’s nice having a safe setting for the kids! I bought a Children’s Place witch costume this year for my daughter, I paid like $12 including a pair of leggings to wear under it and these costumes are really worth it! We use their costumes for dress-up, I have a Children’s Place dress from at least 3 years ago and was passed down from my oldest daughter to my youngest daughter to add to the dress-up collection and it is still wearing strong and of course I paid less than $20 for it, that’s usually my limit on costumes!
We trick or treated tonight in our neighborhood, and last night at the grandparent’s neighborhood in the next county. Lots of candy!
We’ve already had trick or treating too (also in Ohio). It’s always held on Thursday in our city, no matter what day the 31st is. That just baffles my mind. I mean, what if Halloween is on a Wednesday……do they trick or treat almost a whole week early? Weird.
I live in FL and we are going on Sunday. :)
It is always on the October 31rst here. We have a huge parade (they advertise it is the largest on the East Coast or something like that) at 6pm, then kids appear after it is over.
Thankfully, Monday and Tuesday are school holidays. In past years, we have had school the next day, which makes it tricky to get out and back home at a reasonable hour.
Sunday I Guess, I’ve never heard of being on any other day…at least I hope its sunday…I better be prepared saturday night just in case lol
Our local news is telling us town-by-town, county-by-county, and community-by-community which night we are “supposed” to trick-or-treat! So the county I’m in is supposed to trick-or-treat Saturday night, while the neighboring county (2 miles away!) is supposed to trick-or-treat Sunday night!– how crazy is that?! :) We’re going tomorrow night EVERYWHERE. No way am I up for 2 nights of sugar rush for my 3 year old!
Portland Oregon checking in…. Trick-or-treating has always been on the 31st, despite the day of the week, or the weather. I think doing it on the Saturday the week of is a great idea, but I have never heard of it done in our area. Either way, the kid’s will have fun, although mine are all grown up! Thanks to the GREAT Rite Aid deal, we will have full size bars to hand out, at .05c each… We will be the house on the block to hit! :-)
Halloween is on Saturday around here except for the church Trunk or Treat. There are 3 of those in our area. The towns around have set the official trick or treating night as Saturday.
I hate cheap, expensive costumes like most stores sell. I rarely buy those type.
Sunday, I guess. There is stuff going on around the area both on Saturday and Sunday.
Sunday night for us. Halloween is Oct 31 in our town no matter what day it falls on.
Our area already had trick-or-treating on Thursday. We’re in Ohio.
We kive outside of Atlanta. We will Trick or Treat on Saturday. Even our local news, 11Alive, comments on the weather for Trick or Treating on Saturday night. We will have Trunk or Treat at church on Sunday night. Also, the local Trick or Treating events are happening on Sat night. It’s what we do in the south.
Sunday is the date that we were told to have candy. But I have enough if there are trick or treaters on Saturday too. We live on an Air Force Base and the base church only offers morning service.
BOTH: One neighborhood near us (we live in the country and must drive into town) is doing Saturday and another is doing Sunday =)
If Sunday looks bad for trick or treating several churches host fall festivals and the kids enjoy attending those as well. We just kind of go with the flow.
We have a church Trunk or Treat and Chili Cook Off tonight and then the kids will go Trick or Treating tomorrow night (Saturday) We live in Utah and it’s pretty much a given that no one will be handing out candy on Sunday.
Saturday will be “Halloween” for us. We’ll be ready with extra candy incase we get some Trick-or-Treaters Sunday night, but most people around us will be going Saturday.
It will be Sunday in our area. There was no change of day with our HOA, apparently. Church does not run past 7:30 on Sunday nights here, so there is still plenty of time for trick or treating. It does not really even get dark until 8:15 or so.
I totally agree about the CRAPPINESS! I was thinking today at my son’s Halloween Party that I need to start making my 3 kids costumes.
Remember when Halloween was about putting together a costume with your own creativity with things from home? That was half the fun!
We are trick-or-treating on Saturday here in south Arkansas. We will be attending the Fall Festival at church from 4-6 and then trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. We haven’t taken our costumes out of the packages yet…hope we don’t have any issues!!!!
I live in South Florida and we will be trick or treating Sunday. The kids are so excited and can not wait.
We don’t officially trick or treat (we do dress up in “non evil” get ups and go to grandmas’s houses). Our church has a fall fellowship (aka harvest festival) that night. I always thought that if it fell on a Sunday it was always done on Sat. night. Our local news has been talking about Trick or treating on SUNDAY night just like it isn’t a church night. Um, we live in AL in the Bible belt and every other household is going to be at church and not at home to hand out candy. So anyway if everyone is not on the same page it might get a bit confusing and people might not even have any candy left on Sunday if they hand it out on Saturday??
