That is so awesome!
Thanks! And thanks for all of the help from your blog.
Just read your blog.. Truly amazing! Great job and congrats!
Thank you!
It depends. Sometimes our total was under $2500, sometimes it was over $6000 (Family of 5). We go a lot (I used to work there and my family would visit me) so sometimes we don’t do all the extravagant experiences.

For what it’s worth, here’s what ours came to (Went mid-April 2013)
Number of people: 4 (2 adults / 2 Children)
Room / Tickets
5 Nights @ Contemporary Hotel
4 day MYW with Park Hopper
$3060
(used Disney Visa with a special promotion for 30% off)
Airfare
Dallas to Orlando for 4, plus airport parking
$1265
Dining
$423
(Note that this does include the Disney Princess Breakfast in Cinderella’s Castle which was about $175. We also used about $180 in Disney Rewards dollars towards food, so our true dining expense was actually higher)
Souvenirs
$150
Miscellaneous cash expenditures (tips, vending, quick purchases, etc.)
$100
So, net we did it for around $5000. Went through It’s A Small World travel agency for tickets/hotel. I’m mostly happy with price paid, but realized we should’ve done a Dining Plan. Being at Contemporary was a nice experience, but next time we’ll likely do a Moderate hotel. IMO, it’s just not worth the extra $$.
Wow, I feel like I’m overpaying after reading some of these posts. Family of 4, going in Mid May 2013. Staying at the Disney Beach Club Resort for 6 nights. We have the Magic your way, hopper passes, and meal plan (1 sit down/1 counter1 snack daily). This hotel had a 30% discount when we booked. Total price WITHOUT airfare is $4860. Flying with Jetblue, non-stop another $1090.
Total price $5950. That’s alot of money.
First time with our children to Disney, am I missing out on any discounts/deals?
Me and My Husband try to go to Disney World at least every other year. This next summer we have the joy of taking our then going to be 1 year old. A few tricks I have learned is using discounted Websites.
Stay
We usually stay at the Sports resort at Disney. Disney usually has Discounts on these rooms so we’ve gone through them numerous times and the cool thing is you can make monthly payments to Disney!
We have also used Hotels.com. Through Hotels.com you can usually stay at the Sports Resort for as low as $85 a night. I also recommend using David’s vacation Club rentals (DVC). With DVC you can stay at a Deluxe resort for almost the same price as a Value/Moderate Resort.
Food
Unless you just see yourself eating a lot of food. I do not recommend the dinning package. I know me and my husband usually can’t eat $35 a piece in one day. We usually can eat for $35 a day between the both of us. We do put money on a gift card for the “nice” restaurants we want to eat at, which we only choose 2 or 3 and space them out.
Tickets
I highly recommend Undercover Tourist!! You can easily save money with them. Plus free shipping on your tickets! Unless you are staying for a long length of time, 10 + days, We usually do not get the water parks and more option. But to us the Park Hopper option is well worth it!!

I just booked our trip for June 2013.
2 Adults
2 Children 6 & 14
Pop Century – 7 nights
Rental Car
Airfare from Denver
6 Day Park Hopper Ticket
$3900 for the above
I’m budgeting another $1300 for food, souveniers, etc.
Airfare was $1385, it’s awful. We went to Disneyland last year, had a two day park hopper there, stayed for 7 nights, had a rental car, saw othe sites around LA as well and only spent about $3000 total with food and everything.
Angie, I’m going in June as well. My total was $4650 with meal plan for 2 adults and 3 kids. 4 day park hopper w/waterpark at the Animation resort in a Cars family suite. Our airfare is going to be about $2000 or so as well. Plus I am going early to to the Cape for 2 days so I’ve got hotel and rental car charges, but this is important to us (it may be our only time going) and feel it’s the time to go as my kids are 9, 8 and 4 and my 4 yr old loves Disney. :)
I went to WDW and Universal for 10 nights from Australia in Jan 2011, we went on to do San Fran and DL the week after. 21 day trip (to celebrate 21st b’days and graduating) was $4000each including return airfares from Brisbane, airport transfer, hotels in Orlando, San fran and Anaheim, park tickets and internal flights. It doesn’t include food and spending.
We stayed in the Down Town Disney Holiday Inn at about $130 per night, but there were cheaper options in DTD hotels.
The room was a good size and the hotel was really great and had just been renovated. Free Wi-Fi as well.
We spent about $50-$70 a day on food and drinks for two of us.
For 21 days we budgeted $5000 each in food and spending and I went home with $2000 still in the bank.
I found it difficult to plan a trip from Aus because travel agents don’t know a lot of info and they have fewer hotel deals so we booked that online ourselves. We were expecting to pay much more for food like we do here in Aus, but we ended up sharing most lunches and splurging on dinner.
I am wanting to plan a trip for a family of 4(2adults-2kids 4&6). Im wanting to give my girls a magical vacation/birthday. So I want to try and give them a breakfast or two or 3 with a princess or Mickey. And those passes to go to the front of the line. So basically so We can go and only have to worry about spending money on gifts & things such as. And i dont have to be stressing out about anything. Thanks for your time
I am about to book our vacation for February 10-16th at art of animation resort! I wanted to see if there are any suggestions to make the price cheaper that I have budgeted? 2 adults, 2 children, and 1 under 2! 6 day tix (no park hopper), magic your way plus dining, and a standard mermaid room! The package deal comes to 3100, and i budgeted 150 for gas to drive there and 200 for souvenirs/extra stuff! (kids have their own money!) So for 3450, does anyone think staying at a resort is a better deal than staying offsite somewhere for 400 bucks less? Thanks!
Stacy,
Your budget sounds pretty good especially with the dining plan. If you don’t stay on Disney property, you will have to pay out of pocket for all those meals which can get higher than if you had the dining plan. Check out this post if you haven’t already: http://www.couponingtodisney.com/2012/02/29/disney-training-perks-of-using-an-authorized-disney-vacation-planner-a-k-a-travel-agency/
Kristin

Hey everyone!
Thought I would share too, after I found this out. I automatically take about 100 bucks a check from my work into my vacation savings account over the past year. We also have a jar that I duct taped shut to word off “sticky” hands by the kiddos for change. And I love to coupon as well!

Incase anyone was looking at this as a reference like I did, I wanted to let you know that I seriously over budgeted the gratuities, souvenirs and extras! But it allowed us to put down a deposit for our next trip with the left over and have some left to start the next budget!! :)
WDW Trip scheduled for Sept. 23rd- Sept. 29th, Carribean Beach Resort Preferred room with FREE REGULAR DINING PLAN (my favorite), 6 day tickets with hopper is:
$2,352.94
We are traveling by Amtrek Auto train from Virginia to Florida and that cost was $779 with AAA discount (and my car rides with me, so no need for a rental)

We will again travel via the Amtrek auto train and the cost this time with AAA discount is $830 ( the longer you wait to book the price goes up). We are hoping to have $1,000 in spending money again but due to being so close to the holidays I think it will be more like $500-$750.
Grand total: $2,829.65
We just went to WDW in June and had a blast!
2 adults
2 kids (4 and 8)
Airfare from Grand Rapids, MI to Orlando (direct, Air Tran)
Transportation w/ Disney’s Magical Express
5 Nights at Caribbean Beach Resort
Quick Service Dining Plan
4 days of park tickets (no park hopper)
$3600
The meal plan was a must!! I can’t imagine how much we would have spent on food without it! We had 40 meals and 20 snacks. My 4 year old eats practically nothing, so we stretched our meal plan by having her share with us. Saving her meals allowed us to stretch the plan to cover every meal! We wanted to try a “moderate” resort this time, but I don’t think it was any better than Pop Century, where we stayed a few years ago. I also took $300 spending money and came back with $100, didn’t use the credit or debit card once! Really only paid for souvenirs and a few drinks :)
Here is our 1st ever trip to WDW on May 4th – May 13th
2 Adults + 4 Children (Ages 1-7)
Gas – $600
Hotel (for our nights on the road) – $245
Villa (Offsite)- $1200
Park Tkts 7-day – $1235
Spending money (Including most food, and a portable dbl DVD player that we discovered we needed on the road) – $1600 (we went a little over board…..It was our first trip :)
3 Character Dinning meals – $140 (We used our rewards $ from our Disney Chase card!! Paid for the entire 1st meal, and all but $20 of the second :)
We had a blast!!! I think we did pretty good for a family of 6. Our spending got a little crazy, but we just couldn’t say no to our kids, Its Disney after all, hehe.
We are starting our Disney fund now, and can’t wait to go back!!

Total: $2386.04
At this point are planning on driving down. Plane tickets are outrageous!
Our trip ( in two weeks)
2 Adults
2 Kids ( neither are free for anything)
I know everyone can’t do all these like the work bonuses, but I think it’s neat how God put this in our lap. We had a REALLY rough patch 2 years ago and our trip to disney really was magic. From the minute we stepped off the plane it was wonderful! We really wanted to go this year but had no $$ from taxes, which is what we used 2 yrs ago.
Disney visa rewards for Disney tickets 280$ (200 sign on bonus) + the 20$ Disney GC from Disney movie rewards a few months ago.
Airfare 600$ We always book this first. I can change everything else but this chooses when we go, when we get the best deal.
LegoLand 160$ (BOGO free from McD’s)
Hotel 600$ for 7 days ( We’re staying 4 at orlando, 3 on the beach in Madeira Beach)
Seaworld 0$ ( Husband got 250$ in bonus Visa GC’s we’ve saved for months)
Rental 180$ ( We got a really nice tahoe for cheaper than the compacts, we searched under the ‘deals’ section of expedia)
How much is that ?:) 1500$ ish for 4 people plus gas for rental, food, and souveneirs. We always pack super light and try to get the kids stuff together so one of their carry-on’s is empty, and fill it with snacks on the way. Then it holds souveniers on the way back. :)
I think budgeting at least 1000 a person is realistic, especially if the only time in your life you are going to spurge
One way I saved on my trip to Disney was to stay at the Holiday Inn- The Castle. It’s located on International Drive and I actually enjoyed being a little ways away when I wanted to stop for breakfast at McDonalds (I love their oatmeal) versus at the resort. I think to use this option it is imperative that you have a car, but the hotel did offer a shuttle.
I love all your training articles! So many have come in use for us!!
Hi Kristen,
Wow, that is a lot of useful information that you have for the Disney Training Outline. I have a lot of catching up to do. Have you ever thought of writing a book on Couponing to Disney, it seems to me that you have the talent and dedication and passion to help out your readers. I would read your book if I knew you wrote one. You have excellent tips and you are obviously experienced in both couponing and saving money with Disney.
We went last year during free dining and it was right at $1600 for 2 adults with 6 day hoppers at Pop
Wow–thanks for all the info. I have a family of seven and we are headed to Disneyland in Nov, but would love to go to WDW. I think i better start saving double what I have been.
Never realized how expensive WDW is. I have never been to Disney (either) so I had no idea! Really need to coupon to it now haha :]
September 2011 trip package-
2 adults, 2 children (4,5)
5 nights at POP century
5 day ticket without park hopper
Deluxe Dining (we did quite a few character meals!)
We spent $2008.44 on the package. We caught a special deal where the kids stayed and played free…had to pull the oldest out of school for a week. We took the work to do along the way, so it was okay!
I can’t wait to plan our next trip, have a few things to take care of first, but have already started “our fund” for the next trip!!
Loved reading all the readers costs :)
I went with my daughter (age 5) in May 2010 and the breakdown was:
6 nights stay at Pop century
6 day pass with park hopper
1299.00 (with deal to get $300 Disney Gift Card)
Roundtrip airfare: 411.00
Breakfast at Cinderalla’s Royal table: 75.00
Spending money: 200
The disney giftcard paid for all our food (minus CRT) plus some of the souvenirs.
Total trip cost: 1985.00
I never realized how much there was to do before a Disney trip until reading over this list! Now I’m even more anxious about what if I miss something we should have done! We are supposed to be going this summer for 2 weeks and it’s all expenses paid!! WOOHOO!! I know we got blessed there! So I’m working on the what to do list :)
if you have little girls-I would make sure and book Akershus and/or Cinderella’s Royal Table for a meal. We all enjoyed Chef Mickey’s as well! Have a great trip!!!! :)
Thanks so much for this roundup of posts! We have our first family trip to Disney planned for September. This will be a valueable resource for us.
We’re going for 6 nights, going to the park 4 days, quick service dining plan, staying at all star resort (movies) and our total was just under $3500 (with free dining plan).
Can’t wait to read all your tips!
We’re booked for September 2012. Here’s our Breakdown…
2 adults 1 child (age 3)
8 Nights at All Star Movies
7 Day Park Tickets (no hoppers)
Dining Plan (upgradded to regular from the “free” that was offered)
$1963
Round-trip air on Southwest from Kansas City with DH’s points $15
Airport Parking $42 (includes a “3 free day” coupon)
We are hoping to go with our son next year. Would you recommend going with friends at the same time, or not? There are several of us with only one child, and it would be nice for the kids to have someone to play with there. I’ve also been told that to get the in room daycare is VERY expensive.
This was very helpful! We are “couponing to disney” right now and I was pretty sure I was over-budgeting for it (better safe than sorry!), and after reading these different experiences, I was right. I’m so glad to know we’ll have more than enough saved for when we go next year! Thanks for all of your tips!
Our last trip was dec 16-22, 2011…2 adults & a 6 yr old…
6 nights at Grand Floridian, mkv room
DDP-did CRT, Chef Mickey’s & Pooh Crystal Palace
7 day park hopper
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
$4600 (I had a pin code this trip, they do exist!)
plus another $1000 for tips, out of pocket eating, stuff, etc.
Can’t wait to go back in 2012 :-)
p.s. I had the walking Mickey balloon delivered to the room before we arrived. When the bellman opened the door he said, “Uh oh! There is already someone in this room!” My son peaked around the corner and there stood Mickey! It was an awesome way to start the trip!
Going to WDW next month! (Feb 2012)
2 adults, 2 kids (7 & 11)
4 nights
Using frequent flyer miles. Flight = $40
4 nights on-site at Port Orleans French Quarter = $777
4 park-hopper tickets from theorlandoticketclub.com = $1179
Budgeting $150/day for food = $600
(Since SWA allows 2 bags pp, I am taking a suitcase full of snacks! Also having a case of water delivered from Costco for $9)
Budget for souvenirs (kids have some spending money already) = $200
Total estimate = $2800+
hello, I read your post and was wondering if you had any issues with your disney tickets. we have a group of 12 going in april and I wanted to purchase thru the orlando ticket club, just a little nervous as the purchase is $2700.00 and it could ruin the kids vacation if there is a problem, as I cant afford to rebuy the tickets if there is a problem. It is our first trip to disney. Any info would be helpful! Thank you Amy Rossiter—-always looking to save!
The orlando ticket club worked for us! :) I highly recommend ordering cases of water from Costco (I don’t think you even have to be a member) to have delivered to the room. I think it was $8 a case (24 bottles), including delivery. There were 4 of us, for a total of 5 days (we added an extra night at the hotel at the last minute) and I wished I had ordered 2 cases instead of 1. You can take a backpack into the park with bottles of water and snacks, and they don’t care. This alone saved us a lot of money. And I didn’t think the table service meals were worth the time or money ($$$$). I was disappointed after so many people talked about how fabulous the food at WDW was. Maybe I’m just used to lots of really good restaurants back home. The only things that were super fabulous were the Mickey ice cream treats and the Dole Whips. Oh, and the buffet at the Crystal Palace was actually pretty good. It is a character meal with Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore. It was pricey but worth it for a one-time thing.
We went last January, 2 adults, 3 adult children.
2 rooms at the Caribbean Beach Resort,
Park Hopper Tickets,
Dining plan.
Gas expenses.
Hotel expense up and back.
Total was nearly $6000.
We are hoping to go back next January, this time we will have 2 adults and 4 adult children and will need three rooms, but I hope to get the total closer to $4000.
i am planning a trip for our family to go to Disney Land.
Our children will be 10, 9,7 and 2.
plus two adults.
We wanted a three day hopper pass, plus stay for 6 nights outside the park, (which will allow us to go to universal studios and seaworld)
Has anyone done this and if so how much did it cost in total?
We will be flying from Sydney Australia, so airflights included please.
Just an estimate on all this would be great???

2 Children
Stayed at Saratoga Springs Spa and Resort, rented points from a DVC member, 6 nights: $900

Tickets: 7 Days (no park hopper) from Undercover tourist: $950

Plus $400 gas from Texas, drove at night so no hotel expenses, plus however much we spent on souvenirs?
We are a family of 7, staying for 6 nights
I’m budgeting about 2000 for our trip in Sept. and then i also have over 300 dollars in gift cards to disney :)
we are staying at shades of green, 6 nights $414
gas for driving estimated $600
military 4 day park hoppers $690
MNSSHP military tickets estimated $200
Food we are bringing or will buy and bring into park…we will eat one quick service restaurant per day :)
Our trip last year I wasn’t as researched and we spent around 5000 including 2000 in plane tickets :(
Lindzy,
Where do you get military tickets for MNSSHP? I didn’t know there were any. Do you know the prices of them?
you have to buy them directly at Shades of Green….they are discounted, I’m not sure of the prices this year but last year an adult ticket was around 40 dollars :)
Cool thanks! I didn’t know they had tickets to the Halloween party. We’ll have to check that out this year. Thanks!
No problem! :)
Leaving Monday, Trip – 1 adult, 1 child (13) 12 days/11 nights at Pop Century, Magic our Way, Tickets, Park hopper, DDP, insurance, water parks $2599.00
Airline tickets – $644.00 – Memories – PRICELESS!!!!
We go to Disney about 4 times a year, each time for 9 nights/10 days and we can do each trip for about $1400 because we camp in our travel trailer at Fort Wilderness. We have Florida resident seasonal passes so the cost of those isn’t included in my total. We only eat out one dinner during the whole week and eat breakfast and dinner at the camper. We pack a lunch and take it to the parks with us every day.
Last trip: May 6-15, 2011
Campsite: $823
Gas: $400
Passes: already paid for
One meal out: $100
Souvenirs/treats in the parks: $100
TOTAL: $1423
(I’m not including the price of our food because we bring it from home so it’s the same amount we’d spend if we weren’t on vacation).
Of course, I would love it if we could eat every meal out, since it is vacation, but then we could only go to Disney once or twice a year instead of 3-4 times. It’s the sacrifice we’re all willing to make. :)
Our 12 days of vacation in September 2009
5 Day Disney World and 7 day Magical, Unforgettable Disney Cruise
2 adults, 1 child under 3
7 night Disney Cruise $1600
5 day Car Rental $300
5 day parking $60
5 night stay at Windsor Hills private property $600
1- 7 day Park Hopper, No Expiration $400+
1- 6 Day Park Hopper $200+
Food $200
Souvenirs $200
Airfare for 3 $750
Total: $4500 rounded
One unforgettable, priceless vacation.
ENJOY!!!
We would like to go to WDW but there’s so much to learn first! I read packages are not always cheaper. Since we’re clueless we’d probably do better to stay at Disney. We’d need to go as inexpensive as possible though. Since my DH and I are both educators we’ll have to go during the summer. Any and all advise appreciated! You can email me at leigh walters @ ymail.com (no spaces). Thank you!!!!
Hi Leigh,
I would suggest looking into renting a private home off site because you will save a ton and have a comfort of a real, Disney decorated home. When we went to Disney in 2009 I did not want to spend $300+ per night for just a regular overpriced hotel room, with 4 walls and 2 beds. After all researching we decided to rent a high end home in Windsor Hills Resort or http://www.windsorhillsrent.com. This is a large gated community consisting of condo’s, townhouses w/pool and large 3,4,5,6 bedroom homes with pool/spa. It is located 1 mile from Route 192 and 5 min drive from Animal Kingdom. The community has an awesome Club house with large heated pool, small theater, multiple playgrounds and only the guests can access the property. This was the best investment we could of made and we did not miss the so called “Disney Experience” because once you enter the gates of WDW you have the Magical experince surrounding you. This is just an option and it is not for everyone but it will be worth every penny. Imagine coming to a quiet home with your family, relaxing in your own pool and not sharing it with 1000+ people. Priceless. Good Luck!!!
The following is an example of what it may cost for a family of four to visit the Disneyland (CA) parks for 5 days.
You can purchase your tickets online at:
Or you can pick them up locally:
– AAA card members can get great deals on tickets at your local AAA office.
– You can also find passes at Safeway grocery stores.
– Your local credit union may have deals on tickets as well.
•Tickets-2 adults (from AAA): $358
•Tickets-1 child over 3 years but under 10 years (from AAA): $159
•Hotel for 6 nights, within walking distance, about $49 a night (off season): $294
The main streets surrounding the Disneyland theme parks are Katella Ave. Walnut St. Harbor Blvd. and Ball Rd. If you can find a hotel on these streets, then you’re set for a straight shot to the parks. When making reservations, you can usually find a cheap hotel room for around $35 to $55 a night, depending on the time of year, days of the week and how far in advance you book. You can get some great deals at the following sites:
About 95% of the hotels that I have researched in the area have microwaves and mini-fridges. If this is important to you, look into it before making your reservations. One time my hotel said they had a microwave, but I found out upon arrival it was for rent at $10 a night. Find out in advance if this is included in the price or an extra.
Some hotels offer a transit pass to get to Disneyland. Others offer a bus pass. If you are on the main streets, walking may be just fine.
•Food, pre-purchased sandwich stuff and snacks at a grocery store: $100 (there are plenty of grocery stores around)
•Travel expenses: depends on mode of travel
•No souvenirs
Your total trip, not including travel, would be about: $911
We went for the 1st time this past March
3 Adult (actually 2 Adult and 1 preteen)
1 Child
QSDP-Free dining pin
Pop Century
6 Day Park tickets
Total: $1800
We drove. so for rental, gas and food along the way: $700
For a total of $2500.
We are taking our two girls Nov 27-Dec 3 this year. It will be there first time. :) I do not stay off property. I lived down there and can tell you, you are missing out when you don’t stay at a resort. It just doesn’t give you the magic feeling. The great part is that they are now making Family rooms at the Value resorts. They already have them at ASMu and are building a new Value resort with more in it.
While we do have a budge we did choose to stay at a Moderate resort. If I could I would stay deluxe. We are staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. We are very excited. :)
We are doing the Deluxe Meal plan. It is worth it if you plan to do Character meals and Cinderella’s royal table or more then one sit down meal a day. I’ve done the math. We also are doing park hoppers. I really don’t get doing one day tickets. There is always a reason to go to a different park during the middle of the day or after one closes and the other is open longer.
We are also driving down instead of flying. It will be a 15hour car ride. But it is worth it. We can pack more. If you have a car, don’t have your groceries delivered. There is a Publix about 10 minutes from the resorts and a Walmart about 15 minutes. People never seem to drive further then the plaza right out front of WDW but you need to so you aren’t paying Double.
With our magic our way package (moderate resort room, hopper tickets and deluxe meal plan), Christmas Party tickets, driving, dog boarding and food for the drive down we are spending $4000. I also used our tax money for our trip. It was money that wasn’t in our budget and it paid the trip off for us, minus driving cost, dog boarding and food for the way down and back.
I am heading out this weekend for our first trip to WDW. Me & my two kids, and a friend and her two kids. (no husbands). We are staying on property (Old Key West) with her DVC points. We paid $1150 for airfare (for 6 people) and are getting 4 day MYW park ticket at $940. I have a gift card from cashing in our credit card points (Chase Disney card) that knocks our ticket cost to about $750. We also rented strollers from a non-Disney company, $120 for two double strollers. I am taking $450 in gift cards and some cash, but not much. My total was $2020. I paid $392 for $440 in gift cards at Sam’s, so $2412. My friend is covering the room (points), the dining plans for all of us, grocery delivery, and the trip to/from the airport (4 hours away).
My husband and I were looking at the Disney cruise on the new ship for August, but the ones that work with the school schedule don’t work with our budget, so putting that off for another year or so.
oh yeah the kids will be 10, 12, and 8 :(
2 adults
MYW dining
POP Century
3 night 4 day
4 base tickets
Air
1350
Right now I am looking into 3 kids 2 adults 4 nights 4 day base tickets dining air…
We went Sept 29-Oct.3- 4 nights/5 days-2 adults 4 children-one under 3 and one over 10.
We went during free dining plan and it was a great deal.
We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside.
We paid $2600 plus about $500 for out of pocket-tips, souvenirs and extras. We are saving for our next trip now that is planned for Dec. 2012
We took our children and grandchildren, March 2009. 8 adults 4year old and 3 years old. We spent $13,000.00. next time grandchildren only…. And cruises so much less stressful and way cheaper.
We went January 2011 with 2 adults, 1 child, and 1 under 3.
6 nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge on rented DVC points $1265 (we paid 2/3, my parents who traveled with us paid 1/3)
Flights from Hartford to Orlando $617 (3 seats and 1 lap baby plus $50 for baggage)
Airport parking $75
6 day park hoppers $738
Grocery delivery $100
Counter service meals $210 (once per day, 2 adult meals and 1 child’s to split)
Stroller rental $115
Souvenirs and misc. snacks $100
Total: $3220
We’re planning on going back in January 2013 and hoping to stay on rented DVC points at Bay Lake Tower so we can WALK to Magic Kingdom! My girls will be 5 and 3 then, so that will be perfect. Our budget for that trip is $5000 since we’re splurging on our accommodations and our room view. Plus we’ll need 4 seats on our flight, and our younger DD will need a park ticket.
Forgot to mention that we couponed to Disney for our first trip and are doing it again for our next trip! It made the vacation that much sweeter because it cost us no money (just time).
Our family of 4 went to Walt Disney World the week of October 18 – 21st, 2010. We got our package through “The Magic For Less” and they were awesome! The don’t charge you anything to help book your rooms, tickets, and dining. I would use them again in a heartbeat.
So for 4 nights and 5 days:
Pop Centry Resort
Magic your way package including Park Hopper Passes,
Dining Plan with one quick service meal, snack, and a sitdown dinner each day
Our cost was $1729.00
We took cereal bars, pop tarts, chips, etc for our room and never hardly spent a dime on food. We spent around $200.00 on gass and probably 150.00 on misc items such as souviners, cough meds… But we had the best trip ever. Our original cost of our trip was around $2200.00, but through The Magic For Less, our agent kept up with all the deals and specials and were able to apply them to our booking as they came up. We also paid our trip in payments. The required a $200.00 deposit and after that we could pay whatever we wanted, as long as the trip was paid for 45 days before our arrival. It was perfect for us. Hope this helps someone. We LOVED Pop Centry too by the way. I would recommend a perferred room if you can get one.
We went to Disneyland in October of last year.
Family of 5- 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 infant (28 months old)
3 days at the park, drove down
$507 Tickets (we each had 1 free-day tix)
$440 Hotel HOJO (used the Entertainment Card discount)
$300 Gas
$350 Meals
$150 Goofy kitchen dinner
$100 Groceries/Snacks
$160 Souvenirs
$2007 Budgeted Total
(We ended up staying an extra day at the park which added about $110 to our budget, but we actually spent less on meals so really it only added $50. So…)
Total Trip Cost $2057
August 2011
2 adults, 1 kid and 1 kid 3 and under
we stayed 5 days, at the contemporary, park hopper passes, plus quick service meals and air fair.
total cost 2,500.00 plus we brought 200 dollars for souvenirs.
I have to say though we booked our trip at pop century and about a week before we were to leave Disney called me and said they over booked that hotel and upgraded us for free.. it was AWESOME our first trip and we can’t wait to go again!
We went for 7 days in Feb. Family of 6 stayed at Westgate vacation villas which was 249 for the week thanks to my mother in law! We would only eat one meal at the park and eat breakfast at the resort and go out to eat for dinner. Spent 1500 just on the tickets which were just base tickets and all together spent about 3300 for food, gas, parking, souveniers, and anything else that I may have left out! We had a lot of fun and hope to go back next year!
2 adults
4 day Hopper
3 nights at Animal Kingdom lodge
Airfare
$1552.00
I recommend anyone going to WDW to look into this site:
http://www.mouseowners.com/forums/
DVC members are always selling their points and I got my resort for $415 for all three nights. I will be trying the no dinning plan. I been going every year since 06. My last trip was the week before Christmas 10′ and we spent less than $1500 at pop centry
We went Sept. 25 – Oct 1 which was wonderful. We never used fast pass because there wasn’t any long lines (except Toy Story Mania). We stayed after hours a few nights and we rode many rides over and over again. Wasn’t crowded at all:))
2 adults, 1 child, 1 infant
Stayed 6 nights at All Star Sports $1611.76 with park hopper and dining plan (1 quick service, 1 table service, and 1 snack a day).
Rented Mini Fridge $64.20
Soveiners $200
Gas $250
Extra Food $150 (Which includes tips for table meals and 3 refillable mugs)
Total: $2275.96
We were there at almost the exact same time (Sept 24 – Oct 2) last fall :) We didn’t stay on Disney property and we paid much more than you did… although it appears you drove and we flew so that is probably $1000 right there. Anyway, I was wondering if you liked the meal plan and if you felt it was cost effective? I’m planning another WDW trip for us and would like to stay on Disney property this time, the meal plan being one of the reasons.
We liked having the meal plan. It was nice to already have our food paid for so then we could just get whatever we wanted without thinking about the price. Plus when I booked our vacation I was able to get the dining plan for free, but I did pay $130 to upgrade from the quick service to the dining plan. If you are only going to eat at the quick service places than I wouldn’t get the meal plan. But it is definately worth it when you eat at the table services.
Taking my son back for our second trip in two yrs

1487.58
No plane tickets yet, but if we booked today we are looking 678 more for two people…so technically 2165.58
Ok, so I’m new to the site and trying to understand things.. Can anyone clarify what a “quick service meal plan” is, or tell me the best places to look for cheap hotels and park hopper passes, or regular tickets even. Any advice would be MUCH appreciated!!!
POP and All Stars are cheap resorts on Disney property. They are really nice too!
On the http://www.waltdisneyworld.com will have all the information on meal plans. You can even play around and calculate what it would cost for hotel room, park hoppers and meal plan. wdwinfo.com also has some good information on it.

2 adults, 1 senior, 1 child who turned three this year on 5/23/11.
Grandma had a Disney timeshare that is paid for and takes us a few times a year. We generally go in October, December or February and May. Each trip is 5-7 days. We are going for 6 this October of 2011 (Key West Resort) and 8 in December of 2011 (Saratoga Springs Resort). We purchase the annual pass through the vacation club, which is a discount and gets us bonus saving in many stores as well. This actually worked out cheaper than buying passes each trip with no park hopper option. This is the first year we did this and are sorry wie have not done it in the past.
Airfare is cheaper in October and in early December. I always book 6 month in advance on a Tuesday around noon (EST). Airfares seem to be cheapest at that time of day. Our airfare for 4 people in October was $863.00 RT with taxes and $889.00 RT with taxes in December for 4 people. Both flights are direct flight (non-stop). Also booking a rental car this far in advance saves a lot of money. I booked a luxury car for the entire December trip for $265.00 when I booked the airfare. When we do not rent a car we use the Magical Express from the airport to Disney, which is complementary from Disney.
We also take the dining plan. We started using that our last trip and we saved about 20% on what we normally spend in the parks on food. We have never done the deluxe plan.
I purchase Souviners before we go at the Disney outlet near our home at Woodbury Commons in NY or I buy items during the annual Warehouse clearance at the DisneyStory.com. This sale usually takes place in May/June every year and I buy swim suits, towels and other Souviners and pack them in the suitcase for the trip. It saves a lot of money and the family starts to get excited about the trip before we go. This includes princess costumes for my daughter and autograph books. You have to watch the sale daily because things are continually being added at big discounts.
Our total trip each time we go runs around $2500.00, however, we already have a place to stay on Disney property and that is not reflect in the price.

Included in the $2500 is $400 estimated cost of gas and $50 for breakfast we will eat in our room and snacks/water to take to the parks each day.
It looks like staying off site may be the way to go for my family of 7. in the past we’ve always stayed at a condo (timeshare), and we’ve spent an average of $2000 each trip on food, gas, tickets, souvenirs, and dining. we eat one meal a day inside the park, and the rest we pack and take with us, and eat in the condo. we are hopefully going the week after thanksgiving, or the week after New Year’s.
All Stars Music has family suits for you.
Tanya, we went the first week of January this year and it was really busy. There were a ton of tour groups from South America and they were very rude and pushy (pushed my 3 year old to the ground twice)! I’d say that the week after Thanksgiving would be better, especially since all the Christmas decorations are up (most were still up in January but we never got to see the lights on the castle).
We totally did not include a budget for us…this is our first family vacation, celebrating our daughters 2nd b-day, and my hubby and I never took a honeymoon so we wanted to splurge :)

You can get discounted tickets (along with an educational class per child) at this site http://www.disneyyouth.com/register/?location=WDW&program=individual-enrollment . 8-day park hopper tickets with the waterparks are around $200 per person. You can find an off-site house to stay in through vrbo.com. Search for Lake Buena Vista, FL. Depending on when you’re going, you can get a 4-bdrm house for $120/night. We’ve used this site numerous times and we’ve always been pleased. Eat breakfast at the house, pack a soft cooler with snacks and lunch to eat at the parks, then cook an easy supper back at the house. Our family of 6 went to WDW in Sept. for 8 nights. We had 8-day park hopper tickets. We ate out only 4 or 5 times. Including gas and souvenirs, we paid a total of $2900.
May I ask how you were able to order tickets from this site? Im not a part of a group, so I’m just wondering how to take advantage of this deal!! Thanks in advance!
try blue heron resort they are 1 mile from the park and really worked well with our budget!!!!
Whoa, where do you live?! Are you super close to Disneyland?? What Hotel are you staying at? Where do you buy the 3 Day Park Hopper Tickets?? My husband and I are starting to save for our trip (hopefully a year from December… would love to go this December though if we could get a deal like yours!)
oops I see you live 10 hrs away, how many mpg does your vehicle get???
We average 25 mpg in our Odyssey. I mapped our diving route and did the math and figured we will spend about $220 on gas. The remaining will go to food and other necessities and fun things.
We are staying at the Anaheim Holiday Inn Resort.
Just a thought, but there is a Denny’s just outside the park that offers a free kids meal with each adult meal purchased.

That included our cabin fees, meal plan, and hopper tickets to the parks.
Not sure what we spent on gas and stuff we bought. :)
We had a blast!!! My daughter got the bibbidi bobbidi boutique at cinderella’s castle and my son did the pirate dressup.
We did a lot of character dining while we were there too.

I have a family of 7 going to WDW in May 2012.
2 adults
3 children (9,7,5)
2 (1 yr old TWINS)
can anyone give me some CHEAP advice on where to stay (Amber D said she stayed off disney property across the st.) is that cheaper??? I need advice for a budget for our family for 7 days :) Park hoppers would be great too! Thanks for the help!!
Mercedes, I have a family of 8. I love staying on-site but can’t afford it anymore, except Fort Wilderness camping. When we went last year, we rented a Silver Lake Resort timeshare (off-site) using this web-site: http://www.endless-vacation-rentals.com. I chose Silver Lake Resort, because it is near the AK Lodge–a comparable distance to all the parks. It doesn’t have the ambiance of a WDW resort, but you get a full kitchen, separate bedrooms, etc.
I know that All stars Music has family suits that will fit your family. They are also building a value resort for families that need bigger rooms. So Please check them out so you can stay on site :) The kids will have so much for at All Stars Music.
Mercedes,
Our trip was to Disneyland, not Disney World. When you go to Disneyland, it is much cheaper to stay off property, and some hotels are just as close/closer than Disney’s!
We just got back from WDW the end of April with my family of 7. We stay over site in a nice house with 5 bedrooms, the total for the week was 1400 for the house. You also may want to check my blog for budget ideas
http://teenstotsandeverythinginbetween.blogspot.com/.
I did my best to be honest and up front. We had 4 adults 1 child and 2 under 3
I wonder if you might be able to share a link to the house you stayed in. We stayed in one 2 years ago but it is not available for our dates in April.
I have no idea if you’ve received the help you need but you may want to consider the DoubleTree WDW. All rooms are two room suites that have two double beds and a pull out couch in the living room. They have a small kitchenette area with a mini fridge, micro-wave and sink. They provide a free shuttle to the parks every 1/2 hour but do share the shuttles with three other hotels so there are several stops.
We booked the DoubleTree with a discount I found at MouseSavers (my other fave WDW site besides this one) that allowed us a slightly discounted rate and free continental breakfast for two adults and two children.
Here is a nice list of quality off-site hotels:
http://www.mousesavers.com/preferred.html
You may want to weigh the cost between two connected rooms at a WDW value resort or one big family suite at WDW All-Star Music and the cost of an off-site suite/double room somewhere else. Now that I know how things go with just ONE kid and how easy it is to spend a good chunk of your time traveling to and from parks (and going back to the room to rest in the afternoon… which I HIGHLY recommend) I am sold on staying on-site for our next trip, if for no other reason than being able to take part in extra magic hours :)
Best of luck and enjoy your planning!!
Check out the Endless vacations rentals to get a two or three bedroom condo for around 700 or less. Then work your way back. we have a large family too and conventional just didn’t work.
Hi Mecedes,
I am going to WDW APR 2012 with
2 Adults
2 kids
2 (9 month old twins)
We are staying at the military hotel on WDW but I did see some GREAT rates for hotels right out of the park on groupon.
Best I found was 4 night stay for 350 and kids eat free.
Hope that helps!
P.S. Arnt you glad we dont have to pay for the twins!?! :)
P.P.S, They have great stroller tips and such at the WDW site
Just some helpful info for your next trip…..or anyone reading this……we are staying at the Movies Resort. There are 8 of us. We are using our military discount for the rooms. 2 rooms for 5 nights is costing us around $360 tax included for both rooms.
Wow! What a great price Cyn!
Wish I could do something like that! I would have to get a suite though. Not two seperate rooms :( WDW will not allow my entire family to stay in one room. Its fire code 2 infants count as 1 adult, the 2 yo and 8 yo.
They are not ready to have their own room so I think we are better off at Shades. Also, KIDS EAT FREE for month of the military child! YAY so I’m planing meals at 30 bucks a meal for the family :)
We went 2 years ago and checked in the end of jan/feb for an april trip. We stayed 5 days WITH rental car for 300 even. The hotel was right by downtown disney and nothing comparable to disney resorts but that made it affordable.
Wow, Amber, I’m hoping to take my daughter next year, & that’s way less then I would’ve thought. We’d be leaving from Portland, OR, too, what time of the year did you go, if you don’t mind me asking, & what was the name of the hotel?
Hello
We are two adults and one child also, what sites did you look on or how did you plan your trip? $1400 is absolutely in our budget!
thanks!
Curious how three people flew with low price possible of $200, tickets of $100 ea and hotrk, how you did Disney for $1400
Family of three, used a WDW special last fall, 6 nights, All-Star resort, park tickets and quick serve meal plan for all days, total $1600 plus our airfare to get there. Extremely cheap, basically $88 per person per day for everything except airfare. Specials like this are the only way to go if you have to pay. We are also DVC members and stayed in the spring at AKL Kidani for a week with our timeshare, so no direct cost there, just airfare & food. Park tickets were comped to us by DVC for adding on to our membership. Best accommodations that way, total luxury, spacious, full kitchen, laundry facilities, bedrooms, Savannah view, etc.. By comparison, All-Star is basic motel, but it is still Disney with great service.
We took our son to WDW for the first time last fall (Sept 24 – Oct 2):
2 adults, 1 child + Grandma (who paid her own way)
8 nights @ DoubleTree WDW (breakfast included + shuttle service to parks)
Transportation to/from airport
10 Day Park Hopper passes (via discount service, 10 day was less expensive than 9)
Airline Tix
Food/Souvenirs (brought food to parks several days)
Total: 3900.00
We had a blast and with Grandma along we were all grateful for the extra room provided by our two-room suite at DoubleTree, but we’re already planning our next trip – just the three of us – and are sold on the idea of going sometime mid-January to mid-February (pulling the kid out of school), staying at a Value resort and renting a car. By my guesstimations the cost would be similar to our last trip but we’ll be able to max out our time at the parks with Extra Magic Hours and not having to wait for shuttles with car/free parking, while also having the freedom to do things elsewhere like visit Kennedy Space Center and the ocean :)
We have a trip planned for October, and we have broken it down like this:
6 Nights at Orange Lake ($179) – Thanks Gigi for the exchange ;)
$500 Gas
4 Day Tickets (No Park Hopper) – $500
MNSSHP Tickets – $140
Parking – $70
Meals (with Tips) – $300 (We are eating one sit down meal a day, but most breakfasts/dinnes at our condo)
Food at Parks/Condo – $200
Souviners – $200
With some other activites and Misc. expenses, our budget is $2630. I was VERY generous with some areas, and I have some gift cards saved up, so I’m hoping our OOP is much less.
Oh man, my wife and i stayed at Orange Lake for our honeymoon. We knew it was a timeshare and stuck strong to only staying the required time at their presentation. But they got so mad at us for leaving and not purchasing.
So i hope you dont plan to do too much at that place, there isnt much that isnt extra cost. Even wanted to charge us $5 to swim in the pool, and $20 for mini golf!!
Amber,
If you haven’t paid for Orange Lake yet, please reconsider. We had a horrible experience there. It really is no better than a standard room elsewhere.
