We love books in my house! Monthly trips to the library are a must for us. We do buy books from time to time. Mostly used books, but sometimes new books. As much as we love books sometimes we just have to part ways. Usually because we run out of room on our book shelves. When it comes time for books to go. I prefer to sell them instead of donating if possible. Some books aren’t worth anything others are worth a dollar to a few dollars. I always take time to search each title on Ebay just to make sure it isn’t worth more than my local bookstore will pay. Every now and then I find a few gems hidden in the piles. One time I made $75.00 off a old 1915 version of Moby Dick. The only reason I bought that book for a $1.00 at a church garage sale was because the cover was a gorgeous deep blue with an embossed gold whale. For a few years it lived on my coffee table.
My favorite way to get rid of books is take them to my local used book store. It is an easy way to make a little money or get new books with minimal effort. Don’t expect to make a bunch this way. But its better than nothing. They offer usually $0.25 – $0.50 per book. If you opt for in store credit they will give you a 15% bonus on top of the selling price. Usually we end up with enough credit for each person to get a new to use book.
You could also sell them on Ebay. I just find that it is a lot of work for a $1.00 or less profit per book. Another great option is to sell them in a lot in your local Facebook Marketplace. The books that aren’t worth anything get donated to my children’s teachers. I always tell them if they can’t use them please pass them along to someone who can. The teachers are always grateful.
