Don’t let your milk go bad before you get to use it all! Here is how to make it last longer Anytime you open the fridge, pick up the milk jug and give it a good shake. The reason milk goes bad is because the different enzymes separate over time as they sit and some of them sour. If you are constantly shaking the jug, you are keeping them from separating and this can honestly triple the shelf life of your milk!
Another tip to help keep your milk fresh longer is to buy a brand whose jugs are almost completely white and thick feeling instead of thin, see-thru type jugs. Even if your milk jug is white, hold it up to the light in the store and look to see how much you can see into it. The darker the jug, the longer your milk stays fresh. If light can easily penetrate your milk jug, your milk will sour MUCH faster. Usually, the cheaper the milk, the cheaper the jug is made. In the long run, you might pay a little bit extra for more expensive milk, but it will last longer.
Also, don’t assume that grocery stores have the cheapest milk. I actually buy mine at CVS. It’s at least $1 and something-cents cheaper than Walmart. So look around! You never know where you can find the cheapest things until you search!

Always check the expire date as well. A lot of products that expire soon will be in the front. Move stuff around and find a date that works for you. I purchase my milk each week and it lasts that week or longer.

Regarding the price of milk, don’t just look at the price of a gallon. Also remember to look at the price of a 1/2 gallon of milk. Sometimes our store sells the 1/2 gallons for .88, which if you buy two means you’re paying $1.76 for a gallon. And that is cheaper than the price of a regular gallon of milk at $2.79 – $3.29.
But what amazes me is how people overlook simple math. Instead of buying two 1/2 gallons at a cheaper price, they will actually buy the more expensive regular gallon. Many times I’ve seen the 1/2 gallons on sale, but it’s the regular gallons that are sold out. Makes no sense to me. So anyways, just don’t overlook the price of a 1/2 gallon. It might be the better deal.

And do NOT store it on the refrigerator door. That gets too warm.

That’s exactly right. Every time you open the door, the stuff that you have stored in the door is exposed to warmer air as opposed to things stored inside the refrigerator! Thanks for reminding me of that tip!
