Did ya’ll hear that I’m moving? You probably did, huh? It’s like all I talk about lately. But I can’t help it! I’m moving! Into a house! That we bought!
I’m talking about moving so often because I’m thinking about moving so often. (The inside of my brain is like a ‘Best of HGTV’ Pinterest board.) The move is reaching all aspects of my life. My grocery budget. My meal planning. But not, surprisingly, my Disney Fund.
How is that possible, that this giant event affecting everything around me would leave my Disney Fund untouched? Thank the Saving to Disney plan. I know I did. The course understands that while you are saving and scrimping towards your magical dreams, real life is still happening around you. There are still birthdays to plan, and Fathers’ Days to celebrate, and houses to decorate. (Ya’ll thought I was kidding about that HGTV thing, but I have never been more serious. No matter what I’m doing, in the back of my head I’m debating different shades of Greige.)
Currently, I’ve got a couple of savings balls in the air. I’m saving for my 2018 trip, couponing to Christmas, and now counting my pennies for a farm sink. (A farm sink really opens up a kitchen, ya’ll.) My earning sources haven’t changed so I’ve got to make it work on the other end with budgeting and reallocating my dollars.
“Ok sure, Kristen B., but how? Stop talking about decor pillows and tell me how to do this.” I can do the second part, but I’ll never stop talking about decor pillows. The key is budget. Budgets can really be your best friend. (Just like my best friend right now is the Ikea catalogue.) At the beginning of Saving to Disney, you create a very detailed budget that includes a variety of categories. Our budget has a Christmas category, for example, so that all year we’re putting a little aside. When the holiday finally comes, it won’t take a big chunk out of our monies. Our budget also has a Home category. We use it for such things as diapers, cleaning supplies, and now, shiplap for accent walls.
The beauty of the Saving to Disney course is that it considers the daily expenses, seasonal expenses, even unexpected expenses. It not only helps you prepare for them, but it helps you manage them in such a way that you end up getting a better value, saving more, and then that extra surplus keeps feeding your Disney Fund.
