When our fearless leader, Kristin, asked me to document my Saving to Disney journey, I thought I would be writing a blog or two a month, with some basic info. My imagined blog would go like this:
“Hey guys, I did some saving this month. It’s going good. Talk to you soon!”
So when I found out I would be doing weekly fund deposit posts, I blanched. Who was going to read a fund deposit post every week? What would I even have to say? Couldn’t I do them monthly?
Turns out, weekly was the best option after all. People do read the weekly fund deposits (hi friends!) and I have discovered a handy saving tactic through writing them.
Similar to how the grocery trip posts helped me notice spending and sale patterns, the fund deposit posts have helped me identify high earning points in my monthly savings. The last week of the month is usually good for me, because I’ve got grocery budget rollover. The first week of the month is good because I have app cash outs. The middle of the month, then, is a little more fluid.
Knowing when the cash flow is strong helps us plan better not only for savings, but bill paying and purchasing essentials. My money is no longer a mysterious thing that ebbs and flows as it pleases, but it has a current I can anticipate, thanks to these posts.
If you’re not making a weekly fund log, I encourage you to do so. It could be another tool in your savings wheelhouse. Having a rough idea of what your saving patterns are helps you plan better for the future. That Disney trip, or house, or debt payment is no longer a far off dream, but an attainable goal achieved by a series of choices. Choices you can better make because you have a grasp of the variables at hand.
Total Goal: $3500
Last Week: $2532.26
Total Deposit: $100, cash from birthday gifts
Still Need: $2432.26
Do you have a weekly deposit fund log? Have you learned any hidden lessons from it? Have you been reading my fund deposits? Say hi and tell me all about it in the comments!
