One of the things I’ve been reminding myself (and you!) during this current situation is that it’s a good thing to manage expectations when it comes to success via savings. What was once a bad week for savings is now a terrific week for savings, simply because we were able to save anything at all.
In that spirit, I am not going to moan about the seemingly small deposit for this week’s Disney Fund and I am instead going to celebrate that I was able to contribute anything to my future vacation by making an announcement that has been long awaited.
We have finally decided when our next Disney trip will be.
Long time readers will know that there was a heated debate between 2020 and 2021. I wanted 2020, Mr. B wanted 2021, some of y’all were like “go both years!” and I was like “in my dreams!” This went on for months, but we’ve had a little time on our hands recently to sort through details and have come to a conclusion. I am pleased to report we have decided on 2021.
Cue fireworks!
Specifically, Fall of 2021. And that’s about as specific as we can get because the new defining factor is going to be the big 50th anniversary.
You’re all going to think we’re crazy, but we feel like we can skip the hoopla. I know, I know there will be so many celebration specific shows, events, exclusive character interactions, new rides opening…but we’d rather just do our old favorites and miss out on the crowds, honestly. We haven’t been to Disney as a family since 2018, which will be three years. We don’t need the hoopla to make the trip special. It’s been so long since we’ve been, just getting there will be special enough.
(And I mean that with no judgement. The hoopla is great, if hoopla is your thing. Hoopla is not our thing, we are a simple people. We’ll just ride the Little Mermaid six times and then eat our Mickey Bar and call it a successful afternoon.)
The question is, when will the 50th celebration hootenanny begin? (I had to take a break from hoopla.) Technically, the anniversary is on October 1st, 2021, since Walt Disney World welcomed their first guests on October 1, 1971. Will the hootenanny begin on the actual anniversary, Oct 1st? Or will be it begin in 2021, in general? Like, can we expect to see the hootenanny on January 1st, 2021? And for that matter, how long will the hullabaloo last? (I had to take a break from hootenanny.) And one more question, why does it matter for my vacation?
Here’s the deal. We are looking to avoid the hullabaloo, so we need to be certain of a start date for said hullabaloo. We were originally thinking October, since our schools have a two week Fall break then. But if the hullabaloo starts on October 1st, we’ll be smack dab in the center of the hulla and the baloo. In that circumstance, we might move our dates up to September, and miss a few days of school. Buuuuut, if the hullabaloo starts in January and we’ll hit it no matter what, then we’ll probably stick with October dates since we’ll miss less school and the weather will be more manageable.
Ya girl did a little digging into celebrations past and came up with some interesting information. Walt Disney World’s 25th Anniversary Celebration (remember how they decorated the castle to look like a giant cake?) lasted 22 months. Disneyland’s 60th “Diamond” Anniversary lasted 18 months. But the kicker is? They both began on the correct anniversary date. So if you’re wanting to get in the celebrations hubbub in say, November 2022, chances are very good they’ll still be going on! ( I had to take a break from hullabaloo.) And if you want to miss all the celebrations hubbub by going in September, that might work out for you, too!
2021 Family Trip
Goal: $8000
After Last Deposit: $6283.46
Total Deposit: $.66, from child stardom
Still Need: $6282.80
I told you it was a small deposit!
So I have to know, are you big on the celebration or are you like me and happy with a simpler way of doing Disney? There’s no wrong answer! Speaking of no wrong answer, which is the best word: hubbub, hullabaloo, hootenanny, or hoopla? Cast your vote for this very important issue in the comments!

I kind of like hullabaloo the best… it just rolls off the tongue
(And anytime I can get to Disney I’m willing to go!)

No doubt hootenanny is the best word, but they’re all strong contenders
