Sometimes, when I am out shopping for them groceries, something interesting will catch my eye and I will snap a quick pic.
And then, in the process of getting home, sanitizing the groceries, taking a picture of the groceries for these very posts, putting away the groceries, and writing these very posts, I forget all about the pictures I have taken.
And every time I see one of these random grocery pics, I have the kind of violent realization they have in the movies. I remember so forcefully that it makes me blink rapidly and shake my head like a dog getting out of the water.
I’m always bummed out that I forgot to use the picture in my post. But I get over the disappointment by telling myself it wouldn’t have really fit with the theme, anyway. One day, I promise myself, I’ll do something with all the random grocery pics.
Well, friends, get pumped. Because someday is today.
(Try and contain your shock that so many of these are cheese related.)
This Ubriaco Cabernet Casearia was on sale for $19.99. ON SALE, y’all. Twenty dollars is the SALE price for this cheese?
The original price was $14.99 a pound. 2.66 pounds comes out to $40.02. I cannot even understand that number. Is the cheese made of gold?
Ok, I did some research on this cheese. Here is what the Internet tells me: This is a semi-hard raw cow’s milk cheese that is aged for six months and then immersed in Cabernet / Merlot grape must for weeks to develop its flavor and aroma and color. From the Treviso region of Italy, the cheese has a light yellow color and fruity taste with a spicy finish.
So not gold cheese. Wine cheese. I seriously considered buying it because, c’mon, what a story. Me and twenty dollar cheese! Then I remembered I had a grocery budget that wouldn’t accommodate a $19.99 cheese splurge. As well as a husband, whose limits were already gently pushed by my cheese purchases. Y’all, I almost just wrote “Then I remembered I had a budget husband” and now I can’t stop laughing. Budget husband. Grocery budget and a patient husband. There we go.
The most beautiful sight.
I was told there was a Dr. Pepper shortage.
Liiiiiiiieeeeeees.
This is where canned tomatoes would be.
By “extremely limited” do you mean, “imaginary”?
The pumpkin craze has gone too far. No one asked for this. How dare they do this to my beloved gouda.
Okay, this is a cheat. This was at Target, but the sight of all these wipes just filled me with such joy.
Look what is back! The savings at the bottom of the receipt. This was gone for a minute, one presumes, because in the early stages of the rumpus, we weren’t saving anything and Kroger didn’t want to tip us off. But now it’s back, which means I can do my breakdown the “classic” way with money saved, which always made me feel like a real super shopper. Even when I was way over budget (like this trip), seeing how much I saved was a nice reminder that there are other factors in a trip besides budget.
- Avocados (4)-$2. In-store sale, 2 for $1.
- Bananas, 1.49 lb-$.88.
- Beech Nut Baby Food Pouches (5)-$5.
- Ben & Jerry’s, pint (4)-$9.96. Buy Some, Save Some! I think what had happened was, I needed six things to get the sale price. I desperately wanted to get the preserves at the discount ,because they’re normally like double the cost. So I got the coffee, but then there was nothing I wanted besides this Ben & Jerry’s and I just doubled down and got the rest of my qualifying items.
- Black Grapes, 2.29-$2.22. In-store sale, $.97 a pound. Aw MAN. Okay, so while at the store, I noticed that I was charged twice for my Red Grapes. I bebopper to Customer Service, explained the sitch, and the $2.27 went back on my card. But now I am seeing, I was also charged twice for black grapes. YARGH.
- Boar’s Head Pepperoni, .5 lb-$5.22.
- Gala Apples-$4. The system did that thing again where it ignored the poundage and just told me a random number. I bought Gala because they were supposed to be on sale, but who knows now. Also, I’m calling it, Gala apples are not as good as Fuji apples.
- Green Leaf Lettuce, 1.62 lb-$2.74.
- Kraft Dressing-$2.19.
- Kroger Sausage, 1 lb-$3.50.
- Porkback Ribs, 4.56 lb-$9.09. I haven’t seen ribs, let alone on sale for $1.99 a pound, in months.
- Private Selection Bread (2)-$3.98.
- Private Selection Honey Turkey, .75 lb-$6.07.
- Private Selection Triple Berry Preserve-$2.29. Buying Some, Saving Some.
- Red Gold Canned Tomatoes (2)-$2.
- Red Grapes, 2.34 lb-$2.27.
- Roma Tomato, 90 lb-$.99.
- Salmon, 2.28 lb-$13.16. I had a *Digital Coupon* that brought each pound down to $5.77.
- Shrimp, 2 lb-$11.76.
- Starbucks Coffee-$5.99. Buy Some, Save Some.
- Strawberries, 2 lb-$4.99.
- Strip Steaks, 3.04 lb-$18.23. In store sale, $5.99 a pound.
- Apps I’ll submit to: Fetch Rewards, CoinOut
Total Budget: $88.33
Total Spent: $120.65
Total Saved: $66.41
Deducted from Next Week’s Budget: $32.32.
I don’t have a picture for this, and I may have already mentioned it, but I figure, y’all let me go on a 700 word tangent about The Last Unicorn, so you’ll forgive me if I repeat myself. A few weeks ago, I was re-reading an old grocery post because I was going to link it to my current one, when I noticed a typo that had gone to print. I wrote green leave lettuce. GREEN LEAVE LETTUCE. This delighted me to my very core. Now every time I type “green leaf lettuce,” I whisper to myself, “more like green leave lettuce.” Did y’all catch that typo? How come no one told me?? I’m tempted to type it like that on purpose from now on. Green leave lettuce.
Do you take pictures on your grocery trips, or is that just me? Show me your best food related pic in the comments!
