Well, I’ve got a unique money saving tip for this week. Put your cats on a diet. Side effects may include one of them knocking over the recycling can in the kitchen at midnight to go dumpster diving for that can of cat food that might still have a bit of juice in it.
Seriously, Finn & Cleo are embarking on a lifestyle change. Our first cat, Gypsy (who is 16 this year!) was always free fed because she’s naturally slim. She eats when she’s hungry and then she moves on with her life. Finn is a porker. Not only is he a big cat, he’s a big cat. I don’t know what kind of trash panda life Cleo was living before we adopted her in February, but she was in a rescue with other cats and she’s picked up the idea of she doesn’t gorge or come eat every single time someone else looks at the food, it’s going to run out. So while she isn’t rivaling Finn right now, she’s definitely picking up a paunch.
We’ve always dealt with Finn and now Cleo’s piggyness because of Gypsy, who is skinny to the point of it being dangerous. However, in a not money saving move, we’ve switched her to a diet of Nutri-Cal (high calorie appetite stimulating goo) and wet food, because poor girl has run out of teeth. This means that she eats about two mouthfuls of dry food a day, and I can’t see letting the other two eat themselves to death for Gypsy to be able to wander in and take a piece once an hour. (Also, Gypsy is getting a little meat on her bones and has more energy! This cat is going to outlive us all, you guys).
I ran to Walmart to grab a few Field Agent shops (that haven’t credited yet) and while there I did part of the Swagbucks deal we posted! The cat litter for me was only available in more expensive jugs, making it not a moneymaker, so I just grabbed the cat food for a cheaper price than I can usually get. I’ll take a win any way I can get it right now.
It was a very down week! That happens. I’ve got a few things brewing, I’m getting close on a Swagbucks gift card and I’m hopefully going to get into a $75 panel. I told you they exist– just not as easy 5 minute surveys!

I did something similar with my cats! We have an older girl who is a CHONK and then we have 3 two-year-old litter mates. I feed them canned food twice a day separately (they can graze dry food all day). I was splitting two 5.5oz cans of Friskies between the 4 of them twice a day. Then I realized my littles weren’t eating it all but my big girl was going in their room later and chomping up their leftovers! So now I divide ONE can between the four of them and big girl is getting less and there’s less leftovers for her to eat.
I went from 120 cans of Friskies a month to 60!

So smart!! Canned food is NOT cheap either, so that is a fantastic savings!
