It has never occurred to me to check with my local college to find out about research studies that you can participate in and make some extra cash. I’m so glad that Vickie sent in this tip…
I live in Tucson, near the University of Arizona and at the ripe old age of 45 I transferred into the school this fall to study Speech and Language Science and Disorders. One of my classes offered 10 points extra credit if you participated in one of the research studies the school had going on. As I applied to several I found out that all of them ask you if you want “credit” for a class” or a monetary payment. It’s not, $10 an hour on average, but many of these studies are very simple and require about an hour of your time from arrival to filling out paperwork to completing the study. If your kiddos are in school and you have a little free time wonder down to your local university and see if they doing any research projects and need “normal” subjects to compare to. So far I’ve spent 20 minutes listening to vowel sounds and pushing the correct button on the computer (my extra credit). And next week I’m doing a breathing study for $20 and I’m on the list for several others. For me it’s a great way to see what is going on in my chosen course of study, but it would also make great conversation and open your eyes to lots of things.
