Instead of buying juice boxes, buy a good reusable thermos. The night before, freeze about 1 inch of juice (or whatever beverage they are drinking) in the bottom of the thermos. In the morning, add more beverage to the thermos. By lunchtime, the frozen beverage will be thawed and the drink will still be cold.
You can also freeze Yogurt and it will serve as the ice pack in your child’s lunchbox and thaw by lunchtime.

We don’t give my son a lot of juice, but this is a great idea – freeze the juice overnight, then add water, and the juice serves as a ‘juicy ice cube.’ We drink a lot of ‘juicy water’ in our house, combo of 100% juice + water. Helps get the fruit servings, but not extra sugar!
I actcually got some of the reuseable “icecubes” they are just starting to come out for summer. They are plastic and u refreeze them, I put them in my daughters reusable bottle for her drinks. She actually likes to take milk but I hate to pay $.45 each day for milk! I also send a lot of Crystal light.
I use containers, including a sandwich container for lunch items, to save on plastic sandwich-size bags. It is amazing how many bags you go thru if you frequently pack lunches.
I buy those cheap little reusable juice boxes, it is the same size as a disposable juice box, has a little straw in it. I give him flavored water (crystal light), something that doesn’t have to be cold to drink, and he doesn’t mind it not being cold.
I like the idea, but how is metal in the freezer?I wouldn’t want to use plastic- there are questions of freezing plastic & cancer causing agents. Will have to look at metal! Something to think about!
Target has great reusable kids thermos’ for under $10!
Use reusable sandwich wraps/snack bags. Good for the environment and no buying boxes of Ziplocs.
We heat up the thermos by putting really hot water in it for 5 min. Then empty the water and put in hot chef boyrdee that we get on sale. It stays hot until lunchtime and my daughter loves it.
I love the juice idea!! I almost always freeze yogurt to put in her lunch. You can also freeze juice pouches.
Never thought about freezing yogurt.
Good to know!
Love the idea of just freezing a small amount of juice in the thermos. That way your sure it’s not still frozen at lunch time.
