I found this great idea for growing your own green onions on Pinterest!
After you purchase and use a bundle of green onions, instead of throwing the white “root” ends away, submerge them in a glass of water and place them in a sunny window. More onions will grow! Just like that!
All you have to do when you want some more is chop or snip from the top. Return them to the water and they will keep growing! Works best if you empty the glass every so often, wash it out, rinse the roots and replace with fresh water.

I always forget about this one. Thanks for reminding me! I prevent a lot of waste with Veggie scraps by feeding them to my chickens. I bought 7 chicks last fall, who have grown into 7 very healthy and happy hens. They get any scraps I have.
I chop and freeze my extra green onions. If you use a pour out top or skinny top bottle/container, the onions shake out easily and defrost in a few minutes. This solution has made me buy green onions again. I could never use them all so quit buying them for a while. I got this idea on pinterest. Last weekend I made a huge crockpot of potato soup and tried out my strategy. It worked great for me!
That’s a great idea!
That’s awesome! My store only carries biggish bags of green onions, and I always feel bad because I never finish off the whole bag. This way, I can just keep as many as I actually use. :D
This works like a charm….
