This tip comes from my reader Mary…
You can get three uses out of dryer sheet…
1. I discovered that their scent was so strong that even when the box hadn’t even been opened, so I store/stockpile them in my family’s drawers. They make our clothes smell wonderful until it is time to use them.
2. The obvious use …in the dryer. (cut them in half first and use 1/2 sheet)
3. After using them, save them to clean mirrors and glass surfaces instead of using paper towels.

Believe it or not they also take lovebugs and other annoying creatures off the fenders and bumpers of cars quite easily :)
I have heard tell that used dryer sheets can also removed black scuff marks from limenolum floors, much like panty hose do. I haven’t tried it, but it would be something I would try.
I love using them to dust. I’m gonna have to try the shower thing, and I had no idea about it repelling mosquitos and bees. Thanks for the tips!
Use them at picnics. Put sheet under a rock near the drinks or other sweet smelling food to keep the bugs away.
Going to the apple orchard in the fall or doing some garden in the spring, summer, or fall – use a safety pin and pin one to the back of your shirt. Great for keeping all flying bugs with stingers away.
Wow Great Ideas!
Repair a snagged/torn fingernail! In the salon they call it a nail wrap.
Cut a piece of USED dryer sheet to fit the area, and use nail glue to secure it. When dry, just file and buff, then paint. No one will know, and you don’t have to go to the nail salon and pay to have it fixed.
@Melissa – Can the used sheets be used to soak the bottom of cast iron? I’m going to start saving the used sheets for my shower and my windows! Thanks!
I put one in my suitcase after using it and before storing it away….when I go to open it for the next trip, it smells fresh and clean.
To echo Chris – new dryer sheets work wonders for getting love bugs, and any other bugs, off your car. Just get it wet and wipe, no purchased bug remover needed. Wash your car after using the dryer sheets as they do leave a bit of a residue, but it doesn’t damage the paint.
I know many of these have probably been posted, but I had an email from my MIL with them all in one place, so if you’ll indulge me, I’d like to just paste them into here:
Bounce this Along
A mail carrier told a friend that the US Postal service sent out a message to all letter carriers to put a sheet of Bounce in their uniform pockets to keep yellow-jackets away. Use them all the time when playing baseball and soccer. I use it when I am working outside. It really works. The yellow jackets just veer around you.
1. All this time you’ve just been putting Bounce in the dryer! It will chase ants away when you lay a sheet near them.
2. It also repels mice. Spread sheets around foundation areas, or in trailers, or cars that are sitting and it keeps mice from entering your vehicle.
3. It takes the odor out of books and photo albums that don’t get opened very often.
4. It repels mosquitoes. Tie a sheet of Bounce through a belt loop when outdoors during mosquito season.
5. Eliminate static electricity from your television (or computer) screen.
6. Since Bounce is designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television screen with a used sheet of Bounce to keep dust from resettling.
7. Dissolve soap scum from shower doors. Clean with a sheet of Bounce.
8. To freshen the air in your home – place an individual sheet of Bounce in a drawer or hang in the closet.
9. Put a Bounce sheet in vacuum cleaner.
10. Prevent thread from tangling. Run a threaded needle through a sheet of Bounce before beginning to sew.
11. Prevent musty suitcases. Place an individual sheet of Bounce inside empty luggage before storing.
12. To freshen the air in your car – place a sheet of Bounce under the front seat.
13. Clean baked-on foods from a cooking pan. Put a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight, and sponge clean. The anti-static agent apparently weakens the bond between the food and the pan.
14. Eliminate odors in wastebaskets. Place a sheet of Bounce at the bottom of the wastebasket.
15. Collect cat hair. Rubbing the area with a sheet of Bounce will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.
16. Eliminate static electricity from Venetian blinds. Wipe the blinds with a sheet of Bounce to prevent dust from resettling.
17. Wipe up sawdust from drilling or sand papering. A used sheet of Bounce will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.
18. Eliminate odors in dirty laundry. Place an individual sheet of Bounce at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper.
19. Deodorize shoes or sneakers. Place a sheet of Bounce in your shoes or sneakers overnight.
20. Golfers put a Bounce sheet in their back pocket to keep the bees away.
21. Put a Bounce sheet in your sleeping bag and tent before folding and storing them. It will keep them smelling fresh. hints
For the Disney fans, I live in South FL and starting in late April/early May we get horrid Love Bugs in Central FL. For those of you that dont know, leaving them baking on your car for more than an hour EATS the paint off your car, their bodies are corrosive to paint. I use unscented dryer sheets to safely remove dead love bugs from my brand new car. It helps with a bug remover but if you cant find the bug remover (often sells out), you can use water and a dryer sheet and its a good option in a pinch. Didnt put one scratch in my new car’s paint. We throw the dryer sheets in the trunk with a bug remover and papertowels, when we get to disney we do a quick bug removal. :)
when we go on a road trip we spray cooking spray on the grill of the van, the bugs don’t stick so no clean up after.
i love that !!!
The used ones work great on your eye glasses too – takes all the smudges out and also a fresh one in your tennis shoes keeps them smelling good : )
I put dryer sheets in the bottom of my diaper pail, under the bag, as a deodorizer. Works in wastebaskets, clothes drawers, closets, etc. too.
They work well for gnats too, you know, the ones that buzz around your head, the ones it seems no one else can see, so you look like a crazy person swatting around at nothing:) Just tie your hair up with a hairtie and stick a dryer sheet in the hairtie!
I heard they are also good for keeping away mosquitoes.
I found a couple of new uses for them lately. Mice don’t like them, so when we had a furry friend show up during the past winter, I put them all over (under beds and couch, behind bookcases, etc.). Seemed to work well, the little bugger disappeared pretty quickly. I also learned that if your pets freak out at the start of a thunderstorm, you can calm them a little by rubbing them down with a dryer sheet. The static in the air from the lightening gets in their hair and bothers them. My dog seemed a bit calmer after doing this during our last storm.
Wow! My Jack Russell mix is terrified of storms. I’m going to give this a try the next time a thunderboomer comes up. Thanks for the tip!
Any chance that works on 4 year-olds?
Would be awesome if it did!
When I taught at a preschool we used to let the first kid that used the plastic slide sit on one and slide down, not only did it de-static the slide so the kids didn’t get shocked and have crazy hair when they hit the bottom, it also made the slide go faster!! They loved getting to be the one to do it too!!
keeps the bugs away
after taking the dryer sheet out of the dryer I bring them in the bathroom and use them in the tub to get the soap scum off. It works wonders…..you will not believe how easy the scum comes off. Happy cleaning
everytime I go to the grocery store or Walmart etc I try to keep one in my pocket. It never fails everytime I touch the cart or shelf I would get a shock so before I grab the cart or shelf I put my hand in my pocket and rub! No shocks!!!
I keep a sheet in my desk drawer at work. In the winter when you get a lot of static cling, you can rub the dryer sheet under your clothes, to keep them from sticking to you. :)
I save used dryer sheets to scrub the soap scum out of my showers. Works really good.
We’ve used them to soak dishes with stuck-on food overnight. Next morning, wipe them down with the same dryer sheet and then wash as usual.
We put them in our pocket when we go outside to keep mosquitos away. Much better than greasy spray!
Working on fishing boats in Alaska Mosquitoes and No See Ums were bad(yes even off shore) we carried one in our pocket…. when it lost its scent then it was used in laundry and for mirrors or windows…..
I know someone that rubs the dryer sheet on the kids to keep the mosquitoes away.
My MIL uses them to get stuck on food out of pans. She puts water in the pan and drops the sheet in and lets it soak. Works great
I would have never thought of that!
I put one under the seat in my vehicle to keep it smelling fresh!
Also if your hair is staticy than you can run it through your hair and poof! all better!
I learned at a Renaissance Faire many years ago that yellowjackets (wasps) don’t like the scent of them. So if you are camping you can hang them around your campsite and it may help scare off some buzzing friends.
That is a really good tip!
