This tip comes from my friend Aubrey at Eastern Shore Mom…
Doesn’t everyone love Clearance shopping? The rush of seeing the full price tag with a little red sticker over it, telling you that it is marked WAY down? It is like couponing but without the coupons! Once you clearance shop you will never return to the world of full-price. You will be one of “those people” that automatically hunt down the clearance section of every store, scouring for a good deal, then bragging to your friends who are in awe and disbelief that you snagged the exact same cashmere they have in their closet for half-off! What you will notice while shopping the clearance section is…
They RARELY look as good on the Clearance rack as they did on the mannequin! I always see these pretty, put together outfits in the front window that I just have.to.have but when they get to the discount bins they just don’t have as much life to them & I can never put the pieces together that match. Well, my frugal friend, I have a solution!
What’s my frugal solution? What I have started doing is taking a picture of the clothes on the mannequin as I see them. When I make my deal rounds at my favorite stores, most of the time Ann Taylor Loft, and see these pieces on clearance I immediately pull up the picture I snapped. In a flash I have a stylist-inspired look right from the store window but for the clearance price!
This is such a wonderful idea, I can’t believe I thought of it myself and didn’t do it sooner. Since I have been doing this my Clearance shopping has been so much more successful. Use to I had a problem buying too many shirts or not enough pants but not anymore! I am buying the full outfit that I was drooling over and laughing the whole way to the bank as I am paying a fraction of the price!

I love this idea – I always get so overwhelmed at the clearance rack. I love how even if it is not the same exact items, you could pick out similar items that have the same cuts. Do you print the photos out or just leave them on the camera?
Do the items you snapped always come up on the clearance racks, though? I would have thought that you’d end up with only one peice of the outfit showing up and that sort of thing …
I have always been a clearance rack girl but I love this idea because sometimes I just cave.
