When you are at the doctor and he prescribes you a new medication, ask if they have any samples. You might get lucky and he will give you an entire month’s supply!
At the pediatrician office you can ask for samples of formula and even Children’s Tylenol! Emily had a fever at the pediatrician’s office and I asked if they had any Tylenol and they gave me 3 boxes. That saved me $18!

My GYNO will actually give me the “sample” of the pill that I am on- seasonique which is a 3month supply of the pill. So basically I get 3 months for free, which would cost me $60 with my insurance co-pay (since it is 3months worth)
She also always tells me to call when my pack is almost up to see if there are any sample packs in the office- there always are or there will be by the time I need one. I haven’t paid for the pill in over a year! $240 savings! Never hurts to ask
At our dr there is a HUGE basket of Coupons @ checkout. Baby Meds/Diapers/Formula/Baby Soap…I always take 3 or 4 Q’s for the items we use. They also have sample size soaps/wash/cream sometimes!! My dr office ROCKS on the samples for meds…especially if it is something we have not tried before! Remember to ask you adult drs too! I have one who has given me up to 2 months worth of my daily med before!!
Another thing you can ask your doctor if they have any discount copay cards. You can save up to 45.00 with comercial insurance. These are not elgible for Medicaid and Medicare. Reps come around all the time with these especially when they don’t have samples and sometimes there also good for 2 weeks to 4 weeks of free meds.
Be kind, though, if they don’t have any! Samples are provided by drug reps and are becoming limited. I work for a pediatrician and parents become quite rude when we don’t have samples to give out. We give them out as freely as we get them, we just don’t get as many anymore.
Two months ago my 5 yr old got pink eye. The doctor told me the drug rep. had just been there and he would check for samples. He came back with 3 bottles! He saved me $150(with insurance they are $50 each) b/c we all ended up with pink eye. I even have some leftover just in case someone gets it again.
I found some really good Children’s Advil Qs on a tearpad at the pediatrician one time.
I love when I find those!
