If you aren’t sure if you are going to like a generic product, try doing half generic and half name brand. This works great for sauces and cereal.

I do half and half if I need something not on sale or no coupon I will buy the generic brand my kids don’t care except for peanut butter I can not switch the item he knows and he tells you that it is not Jif
I personally rarely buy generic, because the name brands are way less when you shop the sales and coupons together. I will buy a generic over brand though every time if there is no deal on a product that I need in a pinch.
Most stores guarantee satisfaction on their store brand items, so most of the time, you really have nothing to lose! Some will even give you the name brand equivalent as a replacement (i.e. I think Publix does this).
As far as generic brands go, it seems to really vary by store. I trust Target’s generic brand and even prefer some of their stuff to name brands, but Wal-Mart’s generics are often noticeably subpar in my opinion. On the other hand, Target’s generics are sometimes as much or more than the name brand stuff!
My aunt does this to her daughters with their shampoo! :)
LOL Lisa my moms been doing that to my dad for years and its true they never know haha.
I don’t think I agree that this is a money saver. I actually think I’d spend more money rather than less if I bought store brands and generics. For prescriptions, absolutely. But for ketchup? No way. PS… I am NOT a label snob, just an avid coupon user.
Well it is a great way for people to try generics when they don’t think they will like it. That’s what i meant. ;)
When my boyfriend moved in with me…he was deadset against generic. I bought name brand items when he was at the market with me….the next time i bought generic and put it in the name brand containers…had peanuts, coffee, ketchup, etc. He NEVER KNEW!!!
