This isn’t really a money saving tip, but it is a great time saving tip and with holiday baking approaching, it’s definitely worth sharing this tip from Donna…
One of the ways that I make things last longer is when I bake cookies. I make the whole batch of dough and only bake half of it and freeze the other half for another time. That way we eat less cookies in one sitting and I don’t need to buy more chips, flour, sugar, etc. to make more cookies the following week or whenever I want to bake again. I just pull out the frozen dough and bake the other half of the batch. We know there are less cookies baked and we work to make them last longer, so we eat less in one sitting (less calories) and I don’t have to buy more ingredients later when I feel the desire to bake.

Do you have to thaw them first?
I do this too! You can cut out the cookies or roll into balls and freeze them until hardened on a cookie sheet then pop into freezer bag until next time. Then you don’t have to do anything except bake them and you can bake only as many as you want.
If you do a lot of baking, it’s hard to beat prices at Sam’s Club. Approximately $8 for 25 lbs of bread flour or regular flour. Less than $5 for two pounds of yeast. Etc. These are not items you can normally “super-coupon” on, and it has saved me TONS of money over the years, particularly since I make my own bread instead of buying store bought.
This also makes great holiday gifts. Instead of baking cookies, give them the pre-made frozen dough so they can bake the cookies at their leisure (like after the holidays when there is already so many class parties, stockings & candy dishes out — this gives them some easy POST holiday treats)
Danielle…that is an awesome idea! I never thought of that!
The girls and i were talking tonight about what we are going to bake for the holidays. I need to get a list together and shopping list of ingredients so I can hit the sales and watch for coupons.
