This tip comes from my reader Barbie…
Get to know your butcher and produce manager. Ask them questions or allow them to select your food for you. In addition to getting great cuts of meat, my butcher always takes an addition 10-15% off the price and I get the very best produce, cutting back on waist. As an added savings, some butchers will season your meat for you and the butcher counter is often where you can buy bulk chocolate for baking at a fraction of the price of buying the chocolate on the shelves. Just make chocolate chunk cookies rather than chocolate chip cookies. :)

Here’s a little bit of info. for you. We own a beef farm, we sell our meat by half a cow or a whole cow. It costs .40 to cut up the meat at a butcher. We charge $2.50 a pound. So in essence, the people who buy our meat spend 2.90 (our fee for the meat and butcher’s cutting fee) a pound for whatever they order. A one pound filet….2.90. Imagine how much a one pound filet is at a grocery store. My advice is try to find someone in your area you can buy your meat from…you would be much more happy with the taste and the cost. (though I realize some people would have trouble finding something like this in their area).
