Butter is a lot healthier than margarine or shed spread. Mixing it with olive oil or canola oil is also very healthy for you.
It’s a good thought, but honestly, you can leave butter on the counter (best if it’s covered) for a few days and it doesn’t get bad. If the thought of that grosses you out though, I’ve made spreadable butter by mixing softened butter with a little milk.
i prefer buying the country crock spreadable lol….i mean, olive oil is expensive, and i rarely find any good deals on it…and then buying a big block of unsalted butter isn’t going to be any cheaper…might be a bit healthier, but….I’ll stick with what i’m using :)
I’m not exactly sure how economical this is either if it requires an actual stick of butter. I’ve seen recipes online where people make it from cream or milk. Which if you happen to be overstocked on cream or milk because you got it for free would be economical!
Thanks for the recipe. Sounds great.
Try mixing honey with butter- yummy spreadable honey butter :-)
I think this is a great idea! I have a food intolerance to potato. Which, surprise, is in most margarine as either dextrose, or a palmitate. Regular salt has potato in it , and they are in most spreads, so most spreadable butters are out for me. This is awesome, I can’t wait to try it!
a cup of olive oil doesn’t sound like saving money to me…
is that really cheaper? you can get tubs of butter free when it goes on sale at giant eagle with coupons, i’m not sure if it would be worth the time and effort to buy the ingredients and do the mixing lol.
I started making spreadable butter this spring. Here’s the recipe I use – it’s a little different. It uses both water and oil.

I don’t notice the difference. We have been very happy with the quality of the product and it certainly makes the butter go farther. I can’t stand “fake” butter, so this is a better option.
I’ve also added honey to the mixer and made wonderful honey butter.
Brilliant! I love it. I will certainly be trying this recipe.
