Today’s tip comes from my reader MaryAnn:
I cut steel wool pads in quarters with household scissors. Seems like I use them rarely, and a whole pad gets used once and then rusts on the sink and is thrown away. A quarter of a pad is big enough to do all but the biggest jobs, and the box lasts 4 times as long.

I also sometimes store still good steel wool pads in a baggie in the freezer. They don’t rust in there and can be used again another day.
