Saving money….. now there’s a topic we all love. Most of you are reading my blog because you want to save more money. We save at the grocery store, we save at the drug store, but there are lots of ways we could be saving and stretching our dollar and Couponing to Disney……
A tip from one of my awesome readers:
If you must buy paper towels, cut the towel up into 1/2s, 1/4ths and 1/8ths. This way you can use a piece that fits the job.

I am a big fan of cutting things in 1/2 to save money! I’ve found that almost everything is supersized these days. I use 1/2 the amount of recommended laundry soap and our clothes are always clean, and I tear every dryer sheet in half too. When the dryer sheets are used, I re-use them for a quick dusting… kind of like the expensive Swiffer-type cloths.

I love those paper towels that come perferated the small sizes. I would always encourage my parents to buy those when I lived with them. But since I got married and moved out 3.5 years ago, I have primarily used cloth napkins and towels because that’s what my husband prefers. It’s wonderful when we have guests, too (which isn’t often), because they think we are bringing out the nice cloth napkins when the fact is that we use them every day! At dinnertime, my husband and I usually share one cloth napkin, so that makes them last longer as well.
We do still keep a roll of paper towels in the kitchen, but we primarily use them for *really* messy jobs (like cleaning grease off the stove) when we’d like to just throw away the gunk rather than put it in the washer. One roll will last a couple of years!

I’ve always torn paper towels in half as necessary. I think my kids thought that was how they came – sliced down the middle – hahaha. I’ll tear off the corners to wipe down the white board, half them for ‘napkins’, re-use them for wiping up spills. I’ve gone back and forth with cloth napkins but I honestly just prefer paper.

I have a friend who makes awesome environmentally friendly paper towel substitutes. They are very affordable, lightweight and ideal for jobs you would typically use paper towels for. You can see her product at http://www.unpapertowels.com

I have been paper towel FREE for about 8 months now!! It is great, but when we have guests over, THEY aren’t so happy about it!
*note to self, purchase more cloth napkins!

That’s funny, because our experience has been the opposite. Our guests think we’re bringing out the fancy cloth napkins for them …
