If you are looking to conserve water when you shower, here’s a few tips:
- Set a timer and try to shower in 5 minutes or less
- Put a bucket under the faucet and catch the water and use it to water your plants (won’t really catch that much water in the shower, but you can at least catch the cold water)
- If you really want to save money, you could turn on the water and get wet and then turn it off while you soap and lather, then turn it back on to rinse.
- Install a low flow shower head to cut down on water use.

For my kids soap, shampoo, and conditioner, I’ve put them in the hand soap dispensers. This lets us use enough (a pump or two) without over doing it. I used to buy a new soap every month, now it’s every 3 to 4 months. And it’s easy for the kids to use, too.
great idea!
Our monthly water bill has never been over $15, so I take long, hot, relaxing showers. I consider my shower “me” time, a few minutes of peace and quiet with no toddler, dogs or husband needing my attention! It’s a small indulgence, but I love it!
here we have to pay a minimum water bill…we’ve never gone over that amount so that justifies my longer shower…I consider it free since I pay that amount whether I take it or now!
I would use what I was already paying for, too!
If there are items in the laundry really needing attention…I’ll toss them on the floor of the shower while I am in there. I also used to use to keep a bucket in the shower and use it to fill the back of the commode after flushing…only fills the tank once but water is pretty expensive where I live.
And unless it’s date night…do you really need to shave your legs every day?? :)
Don’t forget things like not over-using shampoo and conditioner!
