How to make your own frozen pancakes or waffles:
Make your pancakes and waffles as you normally would and let them cool.
Line them up individually on a greased cookie sheet (or use parchment paper) and leave them in the freezer 2-3 hours (just long enough to get frozen) and then transfer to freezer bags.
Makes for a quick breakfast or snack at less than half the cost of buying frozen!

Thankyou everyone for the really nice comments, I’m so happy that it could help!!
Love it. I do this with sausage balls too! My kids love them and its a chore to make them day after day, I just freeze a big ole batch and take a few out at a time.
I have been doing this for years. It is one of the easiest ways to have convenience food without the cost!
Love the idea of doing this..so you can make them healthier!
My kids LOVE pancakes… I already do this by doubling or tripling the recipe, freezing the extras, and microwaving or toasting the frozen pancakes for a quick breakfast!
Such a great tip!!! We love doing this!!
We make our own mini pancakes from scratch and add various ingredients…Coconut, mini chocolate chips, nuts. Than I freeze them (thanks to your tip) this way my kids can have pancakes all week if they want.
I have done this for years, and I usually just pop the frozen pancakes in the toaster. The microwave makes them soggy and we don’t own a toaster oven, so toaster it is! Sometimes it takes two cycles, but the pancakes come out warm, fluffy and a little crispy on the outside. My kids like them every bit as much as fresh ones.
Also, you can add chocolate chips, blueberries to your pancakes if you prefer.
I’ve been doing this for years. And it is way cheaper to make your own mix. I also make french toast and freeze that as well. It microwaves just fine. Just freeze in a single layer before you put it in freezer bags.
Another of my fav’s is to freeze fruit that is about too soft or past it’s prime. Freeze in a single layer. Then put in a freezer bag. Perfect for smoothies for my daughter and no wasted fruit.
Meant to say for my girls…not my girl..sorry for the typo :-)
I love this idea and started doing it when my girl started getting bigger. As for reheating them, I slightly dampen a paper towel and place it around the waffles or pancakes and put them on a dish. In the microwave they go for about 20-25 seconds, depending on your microwave. Then you have warm and not dried out food, the paper towels almost steams them. Its great for that weekday rush for school.
I microwave them for about 15-20 seconds on high. Doesn’t take much to warm up frozen pancakes!
Waffles we throw in the toaster/toaster oven just like an eggo waffle.
curious, how does everyone reheat the frozen pancakes? Toaster oven? Microwave? If microwaving, how long and what power level (100% or 50%)?
I love doing this. It is such a hassle to make up the mix and set up and clean up the griddle, so I always make extra to freeze. I will be honest, I just throw them in a tupperware – I don’t bother doing the cookie sheet thing.
Save even more by making pancake mix from scratch!
Pancakes
1 cup flour (I use 1/2 all purpose and 1/2 whole wheat)
1 tbs sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 c milk
2 tbs oil
I triple the recipe (minus egg milk and oil) store in my pantry. Sometimes if I can get a good price on dry milk I will mix that in with dry ingredients and use water when I am making pancakes.
I have not figured the cost of this but I know that it is super inexpensive and most of us have all the ingredients on hand.
You can add bluberries, bananas, nuts, buttermilk or what ever. Is basic and versatile.
Have fun!
I just did this the other day because we had a gallon of milk that was about to expire and I did not want to throw it away. I ended up making a huge batch of pancakes, waffles, croissants, and cinnamon rolls to freeze. I love my recipe – the pancakes smell like McD when we eat them.
Please share your recipe for pancakes.
I would LOVE if you shared that pancake recipe. My son is absolutely obsessed with McD pancakes and I hardly ever get fast food, so I’m sure he would love this.
Sure – here it is. http://www.savingyoudinero.com/2010/02/19/new-recipes/
We love them. They are really the only pancakes I have ever been able to make!
Thank you!!!!!!!
I do this with pancakes and french toast. I am toying with the idea of doing waffles too. My almost 2 year old LOVES buttermilk eggo-style waffles. But I don’t know if I want to invest the money in a waffle maker. What do you think? Will it pay off in the long run?
I’m sure it would pay off! You could wait for a deal on a waffle maker, the price isn’t too bad :)
If you have someone in your life who always asks “What do you want for your birthday/Christmas?” say you want a wafflemaker! My MIL always asks what we want. I’ve started keeping a list of things I want but wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself so I have an answer when she asks.
I love doing this!!! And it makes things so easy since you already have them on hand. We had Gingerbread pancakes this week!
I make pancakes from scratch, they taste better, and I save a ton of money not buying the mix. I will make a bigger batch next time and freeze them for sure! Disney in September!
I do this with pancakes all the time. There is no way this mama is organized enough to make fresh pancakes on a school morning;) I haven’t done this with waffles because I can’t find a waffle maker that doesn’t make thick waffles.
We love doing this! I always make extras on purpose so the kids can have an easy breakfast during the week. Once we had homemade pancakes at my SIL’s house and she was going to THROW AWAY the leftover pancakes. I said “Why are you throwing those away?” Now she freezes extras like I do. :)
We have always freezes our pancakes..we just let them cool down and then just stick them stick into freezer bags or take wax or parchment paper and stick a little piece between each pancake
we always make the whole box (sometimes two) of pancake mix and freeze whatever we don’t eat. This way we don’t have an open box of mix sitting in the pantry waiting to get spilled..lol
Now that’s one of those…… why didn’t I think of that type of things!!!! Thanks :)
