Have you noticed the product guarantee on the back of products? Almost every product you buy has some kind of guarantee with it. They might replace the product, a part, offer service, etc, but it is up to you to ask for it.
Recently my friend Maria had a hose nozzle break. It was a generic one she had purchased from Ace Hardware. When she went to buy another one, they informed her of the product guarantee. As long as she keeps the original packaging and receipt, they will replace the product if it breaks! (A lot of stores offer this, you just need to ask about it.)
We recently bought my husband a pair of dress shoes with gel insoles. The gel broke and I contacted the company. They sent us a new pair of insoles! That really made me think a lot of their company for taking the time to do that.
Have you ever had a product replaced because of a 100% satisfaction guarantee?
I buy almost everything I can at Bed Bath and Beyond even if it is slightly more expensive (they always have coupons out and they take expired ones). The reason is if you have a receipt they will take something back 5 years later if it has broken. They do take stuff back without receipts but I don’t know about 5 years later.
My husband bought a pair of sunglasses from the Brooks Brothers outlet many years ago. When they broke, he checked his many files of product information and discovered that they had a lifetime warranty. He mailed them back to the company, who sent him a catalog of sunglasses to choose from. He had a new pair (with another lifetime warranty) within a week. Those sunglasses broke recently and he again received a new pair-no questions asked. I used to make fun of him for keeping such a large file of product information but now I realize how much it saves to keep all that paperwork that I used to just toss!
I actually had a backpack replaced from Jansport. 20 years or so after I bought it! It said it had a lifetime guarantee, and they meant it.
There have been other items that I just didn’t bother with. The worst are those darn CFL bulbs. They’re supposed to be guaranteed for xxx-years, but the packaging is a pain to retain, and they never last nearly as long as they say. If it’s a light that we turn on/off regularly, it usually doesn’t even last a year. And you’re supposed to do HASMAT stuff when they break, too. I just don’t buy them anymore. Too many issues.
I recently had a problem with my Acuvue contacts..twice the contact had little chips in them that split as soon as you put them in making them worthless. I called the company to report it and they sent me a whole new box! They also got the lot number so they could recall them in case it happened to anyone else. I was very pleased with their customer service and that they stand behind their product.
Thanks for reminding me, I just sent an email to Thermose as the $14 Dora the Explorer Funtainer sippy cup that I got DD is now faceless. I washed it as said (hand wash) barely even scrub the outside with my kitchen brush and you can barley make out that it’s Dora. I just got it for her 2 months ago. I do love the Thermos brand though, they advertised that it would keep drinks cold up to 12 hours and it sure does. My DH and I who use Camelbak water bottles will steal sips out of her’s for colder water once our ice cubes are melted. While I am not expecting them to do anything about it, they should be aware that there are some product issues.
How does everyone feel about the satisfaction gurantee rebates? If you really like the product do you still do the rebate? I sorta feel wrong doing them, but have done them on a few products that I thought could be improved.
That should say Thermos, typo!
We contacted the company of the cute PVC cups and sports bottles with the kids names on them. We had one sports bottle flip top break and the other bottle kept leaking. They were quick to respond and sent us two new bottles! And these are still working fine.
I recently had Orajel send me a check for a full refund because I emailed them about how displeased I was with the messiness of their toddler toothpaste.
Yes! A REI brand coat I bought for my daughter had a guarantee. The zipper broke and they took it back, no questions asked. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the same coat in stock, so I asked for a cash voucher. I can use it for merchandise and/or get my cash back. I am saving it for back to school :-)
And on a side note: The store employee mentioned that if it had been fixable, they would have fixed the zipper for no charge.
