Reader Chris shared this tip:
I very rarely buy wax paper. I rinse out the bags from cereal boxes and use these in place of wax paper. I often make double batches of certain foods (cookie dough, pancakes, waffles) and freeze the excess for easy, convenience foods for later. I cut the cereal bags into little squares and put in between each pancake, waffle, etc. before freezing.
Don’t forget, I’m always looking for your best money saving tip, so please share!

Two things make this not such a good idea for our family:
1) daughter is gluten-free so we don’t want to risk cross-contamination of her food by using wrong (even rinsed) cereal bag.
2) some cereals say “BHT added to packaging” or similar words, so preservative-free foods would be exposed to whatever residue is still in packaging.
If these situations don’t apply to you (no food sensitivities and only buy non-preservative-treated-packaging cereals, this should work for your family.
I like that idea from Chris—– Saving the plastic bags from the cereal boxes. I hardly ever eat cereal, but I’ll try to do this.
Thank you!
