Do you have Vapor Rub in the house? Are you ever sick enough to use the whole jar up? If not, here are some other great uses to keep that jar from going to waste!
- Pet Deterrents – Vapor Rub will keep cats from scratching and dogs from using the bathroom in the house. A where your cat is prone to scratch or leave an open jar in the room your dog likes to mark and watch the bad behavior stop!
- Headache Relief – just rub on your temples!
- Mosquito Repellent – dab some on your skin and clothes to keep the mosquitoes away!
Have you ever used Vicks for something other than a decongestant?

My Mom and other family members swear by it, they put it on anything and everything that hurts and they swear by it (must admit i have become a believer, i put it on not only myself but my kids, when they bump themselves, cut themselves (makes the pain reduce) and sore body and of course congestion
True! We live on the bayou so mosquitoes are BAD and my son can’t use “real” insect repellent yet (not that I want him to) so I bought some Organic insect repellent called bye bye bugs. One of the main ingredients is peppermint oil and boy do the mosquitoes hate it!
Where on the “bayou” do you live? I’m from Louisiana too. I’m from Houma.
Still decongestant related…..Place a tablespoon or two of the vapor rub in a diffuser that uses wax melts. Place the diffuser in the bathroom, turn it on, and close the door about 1/2 hour before bath time. The vapors will fill the room and mix with the humifity from the bath and help relieve congestion! This works great for little ones who won’t take medicine.
Very good idea!
I know this sounds crazy, but it works. If you do NOT want to get a bruise, rub vapo rub on your affected area and I guarantee you, it will NOT bruise. My kids have bumped into everything and as soon as I can get a hold of some vapo rub, I put it on them and no bruise the next moring. Promise!
This is still sorta a decongestant tip but it works. If you have a baby that is having breathing problems rub some on their feet before they are sleeping. Make sure they are wearing feet PJ’s or socks. They will sleep so much better. When my daughter was about 6 months old she had RSV and bronchitis and this was they only thing that helped her sleep.
Ok, this is icky, but I have read that it may work on toenail fungi. I’m sure just the minor kind. http://www.ehow.com/how_4393031_cure-toenail-fungus-vapor-rub.html
I second the cough relief suggestion. My mother swears by it. I tried it once simply because I was trying to prove that it didn’t work. Yeah, I ate some crow the next day. It works well.
Okay I’m going to be the first to say my uses are crazy, but they do work. First, if you are in need of a pedicure and have cracked heels or nasty feet put the vapor rub on your feet before bed and the next morning they look great, no cracked heels. The second use is an old goody if you have a bad cough at night , you know the ones that wake you up, you can rub the vapor rub on your feet at night and it will keep you from coughing. I have used this with all three of my children at night.
This works for us too. Our dr. recommended it!
no, i dont think your uses are crazy i think they are great uses ill try them next time
