Did you know that some stores reward you for bringing your own bags to the store?
At CVS you can purchase a Green Bag Tag for $.99. You can have it scanned when you bring your own bag to use (only one scan per day) and after 4 scans you get $1.00 ECBs!
Target offers $.02 off your order per bag you use. If you do a lot of grocery shopping at Target and take multiple bags on each trip, those savings could add up.
Aldi requires you to bring your own bag (or purchase reusable ones at the register), but it’s totally worth it for the savings you can get from shopping there.
Do any of your local retailers offer rewards for bringing your own bag?

Make sure you get high quality bags! My SIL bought me one when we were at JoAnn’s Fabric the other day and it looked nice but didn’t feel the same as my other bags. Saturday (only about the 3rd use for the bag) I was walking to my car and the handles broke and I ended up with x-rays and a sprained wrist (bad luck of how the bag fell on the hand I was holding DD’s hand with). I am not going to stop using my green bags but I am going to look at them all and be sure they are in good shape before I go out again!
Fred Meyer (a Kroger affiliate) gives 5 cents. IDK if its per bag tho since my reciept only shows 5 cents everytime I shop there
, no matter how many bags I bring.
I live in NC and the grocery store Lowes Foods will give you $.05 off for each reusable bag you use…Target also does $.05
Up until a month ago I always took my own bags into the grocery store with me (I am in Georgia and we have no incentive to do so) but being as how those plastic grocery bags multiply at a rate speedier than light and I always forget to take them back to the recycle bin at the store I thought this was a good idea for all involved. Long story short; I started working at a grocery store a month ago as a bagger and it takes “at a minimum” twice as long to bag your groceries, so you spend more time at the checkout and if busy you are holding up the line behind you. Just thought I would throw this out there.
I’ve been taking my own bags to the store for years and I’ve never had it take longer to bag. I always coupon though so maybe that’s it, by the time my coupons are all entered my groceries are in my cart and ready to go.
Not sure if this is regional (I’m in Southern California), but my CVS green tag will scan more than once a day. It will only scan once a day for each store, though.
So if you go to 3 different stores in the same day, you can scan the tag 3 times.
It all adds up!
At Trader Joe’s you can enter for a weekly $25 gift card drawing for bring in your own bags. Also, our Target here in CA gives $0.05 per bag.
Here in DFW, at my favorite kids clothing resale shop, Once Upon a Child, (I think they are a national chain), they give you an extra stamp on your frequent shopper’s card when you bring and use their reuseable bag. Each stamp is worth $10!
I am in new jersey and we get 5 cents for every bag we provide at shop rite.
I have a green bag tag somewhere but I lost it. Oops. I need to find it, but we don’t shop at CVS very often. Our local grocery store (Pick N Save – one of the Roundy’s stores, I think they’re a Midwest chain) offers .05 per bag. I wrecked one of my bags though so I’m down to only a few. I need to get a few more so I can do my whole grocery trip with the reusable bags.
At the Target in Alabaster, AL, they give $0.05 off per bag that you use but most of the time I have to remind my cashier.
In Kentucky, we get $0.05 off at Target for each bag we use. Last time, we used all reusable bags and since our main grocery shopping is done at Target, we are planning to get the same savings next time.
Stop and Shop also does 5 cents a bag.
Sprouts also offers .05 a bag.
The BX here at Little Rock AFB gets you $.05 a bag
Target in Ocala, FL does 0.05 also….and I do use the CVS Green Bag Tag. Every bit helps!!!
yes I am in FL and its usually .05. they have a special scanning thingee. :)
Not sure if this is only in Florida but the Target’s in Jacksonville and Tampa give me 0.05 cents for each bag. I always bring my own:)
.05 in NE Ohio also.
Most times I have to remind the cashier to give credit for the bag.
