This tip comes from my reader Heather…
If you are getting married or having a baby, check to see if the registries at your local stores offer a percent off coupon for items left on your registry after the event. I know Target usually sends a coupon for 10% off the items left on your baby registry.

I know this practice is very common these days in American culture, so I don’t want anyone to take this the wrong way, but registries feel very awkward to me … like I’m asking for gifts. I did it when I got married under pressure, but I did not do it with my baby, and I don’t plan to do it again for any reason. If a potential gift-giver wants to know what I can use, they can ask, but it doesn’t feel right to me to sit down and plan out my potential gifts in advance.
Does anyone else feel this way? I know I’m in the minority on this one.
When we got married, Target gave us tons of coupons (including ones for free drinks and a little sample wedding cake), and Bed, Bath, and Beyond gave us coupons for percentages off.
babies r us gave me coupons & samples when I registered. target sent me lots of baby coupons throughout the year for about 2 years.
When I did my registry I got a bunch of samples and coupons from them. This was about a year ago but I am sure they still do it. A list of all the freebies and coupons are here http://bit.ly/aKtXLq
Dillards does this also!
