My friend and her family, we are going to call them the “G” family, are at Disney until Friday. She volunteered to send Live from Disney photos for me to share with all of you. I thought it would be fun to follow along on her family vacation.
They are staying at Ft. Wilderness, which is where we stayed on our last trip. The cabins at Ft Wilderness are awesome! They sleep 6 and have a full kitchen. The grounds are beautiful and you could stay at that resort a whole week without even going to the parks. There is just so much to do!
The major drawback to staying at the Fort is that the only transportation to the Magic Kingdom is by boat. Which isn’t bad except for when it’s FREEEEEZING and your boat is one of the open boats. Brrrrr! We ended up with one of those a few times when we went in January.
Go here to see all the Disney pics I have posted including my Hidden Mickey series.
Forgot to say that we loved the cabbins. Loved that the kids could be kids and not really have to worry about bothering the people around us.
I am not sure about the bus, could always take a bus to another park and catch a bus to the MK there. or at least to EPcot and take the Monorail to the TTC. We always drive to the parks becuase of my sons autism, that many people in a small bus could lead to one major meltdown! THat and the last time we decided to take a bus back to All Stars SPorts we waited 45 minutes after fantasmic to board a bus. The longest wait all trip! And we went during a “slow” time. Just warned (unless changed) all 3 All Star resorts share a bus system. You would think that as big as those resorts are and as many people saving money by staying there they would each have thier own. AH well, live and learn I guess!
Can you not get on a boat at the Outpost (I think this is correct, the bus stop up front) and go to MK.
Last year we rode to the Comtemp by boat and then the Monorail. The boat does not run to MK until the park opens. We also rode the boat from MK to Ft Wilderness back.
How far of a walk is MK from the Comtemp/
@Kristen: That will be good to know. We have always stayed there during the Christmas holiday and are looking to go this October since we have a different vacation planned for this December. The customer service rep. didn’t qualify her answer and the link I posted earlier did not either…. I am hoping that the bus service is not limited to peak-season only. Keep us posted!
Sounds great for our family of 6! Our next trip we are staying at POP, but I will have to keep FW in mind for future visits:)
Where do I go to get help planning? I tried to do some scenarios myself for later on this year, and I have became very overwelmed, I do not understand as far as things such as what kind of tickets to get, or where to stay. And I am not even sure just yet if we are going I was trying to see a price point. The first one I did was for the Grand Floridian and the price was not to bad, but I did not know if I needed the really expensive tickets or just the basic.
Margarita – Basic tickets are good for one park admission a day. Park Hopper gets you into multiple parks a day. Then if you want to go to the water parks, you have to add on the Water Parks option too. I hope that helps a little! Have you read through my Disneyworld training series?
AHHH!! I love Fort Wilderness!!
I swear there was no bus to the Magic Kingdom when we were there in January. ;) In addition to their boat, they said that you either take the boat to the Contemporary and walk over to the Magic Kingdom or take the bus to Wilderness Lodge and take their bus to the Magic Kingdom. There wasn’t even a Magic Kingdom bus stop.
Could be that it was because we were there at a ‘slow’ time? I’ll have to do some more research on it this evening.
It’s the “G” family here. This week, when it was raining, they closed down the boats and had us ride a bus from our cabin in Fort Wilderness to the “Trading Post” in Fort Wilderness, then we got on another bus to the Wilderness Lodge, then from there we caught a bus to the Magic Kingdom. Hope that helps!
I just confirmed with their reservation desk what I have known from my experience and that is you can take the bus or the water taxi.
Although there is bus transportation to all other parks, the only available transportation to the Magic Kingdom is the boats.
Only transportation to the Kingdom is by boat? Pretty sure that is not accurate. They have the same bus transportation as all of the other resorts.
