It has been said that no matter how many times you visit Walt Disney World, you will find something you’ve never experienced before, see something your trained eye had missed the first dozen times, or learn some new and exciting tidbit about the park. This was certainly true for me last month when the B Family made our long anticipated 2018 trip to the Most Magical place on Earth.
It was our very first day at the Magic Kingdom, and both princesses were in the double stroller. The Glass Slipper was wearing her Magic Band, so proud and ready to scan. The Frying Pan, a little more wily, kept slipping her magic band off her teeny wrist and alternately throwing it in the air and gnawing on it like a gopher. After we passed through the metal detectors, Joe the Security Guard beckoned me over.
“You know, there’s a trick to make the bands smaller, for little wrists.” I did not know and had barely told him so when he deftly twisted the gray portion of the band away from the colored portion. “Voila! It ought to stay put now. No more chomping for you, little princess.”
I probably thanked him about 200 times. What a game changer. The Frying Pan was too small to actually need a MagicBand this trip (since she was under 3 at the time of travel) but insisted on wearing hers, just like big sister. If you’ve got some small wrists in your party, hopefully this trick will help you out, too!
The yellow is a magic band that has been hacked. Check out that size difference!
Turn over to the gray side. You’ll notice a groove, and a little arrow pointing up.
Following that arrow, pull the gray portion away from the colored portion.
You’ll be left with a chunk of gray…
…and a perfectly child propionate magic band!
Did you know about this? If you did, why didn’t you tell me? If you didn’t, will you try on your next trip? Got any other good Magic Band tips? Hit me up in the comments!

It works well. It said on our box we could do that so I did for my son and it fit great.
