When you enter Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, you will be walking right down Main Street U.S.A. Pay close attention to the brick. It’s red because Walt Disney wanted his guests to feel like he was laying the red carpet out for them!
In order to give you a good foundation of knowledge about Main Street U.S.A., please read these articles:
Now here is some additional advice about Main Street:
1. Main Street closes half to a whole hour after the Magic Kingdom closes. Just because the park ‘closes’ at 9pm, you do not have to rush out. Take your time enjoying the shops and attractions on Main Street.
2. Avoid Main Street from about 2:30 pm until after the parade is over if you aren’t watching the parade.
3. You can stop by the car barn and pet the ponies or see them hosed down at the fire station.
4. Cooks at the Convectionary makes candy in view of guests until 7 pm at night.
5. Take a moment to sit next to Goofy on the bench. You will be in for a true treat!
6. Sometimes you can find characters to the left of City Hall, especially around 5 pm!
7. Don’t use the Main Street vehicles for transportation. It is faster to walk down Main Street.
8. Do you have young children? Stop by the Baby Care Center next to Crystal Palace. There you will find an air conditioned room, a changing room, bathrooms, a couple of tables for the kid’s to sit down and color at as well as a tv that plays Disney movies. This is a good place to regroup.
9. The Town Square Exposition Hall Museum has a theater that shows old cartoons in a 25 minute loop. This is a good place to hang out at the end of the day while you wait on the crowds to disperse. Make sure you walk to the back to get your pictures made with some pretty neat stuff.
10. When you stop in the Chapeau store, be sure to look for the antique phone. Pick it up and listen to a neat conversation!
11. You can get an actual haircut at the Barber Shop on Main Street. You can also get glitter and gel added to your hair too!
12. Smell chocolate chip cookies? That is being pumped into the air from the Bakery.
13. If you are a firefighter, be sure to stop by the fire station!
14. Most of the stores are connected on the inside. You can pay for your item at any of the registers in any of the stores!
I will add to this list as more tips/secrets are found.
So what neat tips or observations do you have about Main Street U.S.A.?

Where’s the goofy bench ???
He is right when you come through the main doors of MK. Its to the right side before you go onto Main Street where all the stores begin….
Twice in my life I have gone behind main street both times were do to a parade. It was different to see the back of the buildings. I love the smell of Main Street USA.
I agree with Amy! We stumbled upon this spot for viewing the fireworks (mostly because it’s very close to a restroom!) and it was a fabulous location! An added tip that I stumbled upon by accident – people DON’T generally shop after the fireworks, which means the stores are relatively empty. Since they’re connected from one end of Main St. to the other, we could quickly zip through the stores to get down to the park entrance instead of inching along with the crowds.
Holly – The store connected tip is awesome. I think it’s just up one side though. I need to look that up and see.
Yeah, I think it’s just on the side that the Fire Station is on.
One of the best places in the park to see the fireworks is from the umbrella tables outside Casey’s Hot Dogs (at the end of main st on the left). We stumbled on this accidentally and then one of the staff told us it was nearly the best seat in the house. They take the umbrellas down for the show. Get there early!
We were given a free Birthday Badge at the Emporium, also.
Amy I totally agree! That is where we sat for the fireworks and it was fabulous!!
Visiting the barber shop is the coolest experience. My 8yo son got a haircut (for a reasonable price) but more exciting for both my son and my 13yo daughter were getting “Mickey Heads” painted on their hair by the barbers – and then getting sprinkled with Pixie Dust. They both looked cute and loved the visit!
They pump out chocolate chip cookie smell from the Bakery store out onto Main Street. Good marketing by the Mouse! Also, if it’s your birthday, you can get a badge from Guest Relations next to the Fire Station.
Wow I use to work there (Frontierland) and didn’t know about any of those things except the Goofy bench. I am trying to think of things they told us while at Disney University, but that 8 years ago.
WOW!!! We’ve been to DW 3 times in the last 3 years and I didn’t know any of this except not to use the Main Street vehicles unless you’re not in a hurry. I just learned that you can get haircuts in the barber shop this last year. We are gearing up for 2012 – taking a break to save money (using your FANTASTIC methods – thank you SOOO much!) and awaiting the remodel of Fantasyland and the opening of Legoland. We are going to squirrel our money and stay for a week at either the Grand Floridian or Bay Lake Towers. We did GF in ’07 and we are spoiled. :-) Halloween is our favorite so hopefully we can do all the events at DW, Lego, and Seaworld! I am so inspired by you! I can’t thank you enough for doing everything you do for all of us!
