Our back door opens out instead of in (which I think is stupid) and there isn’t really any way to put a screen door on it. So a few years ago I picked up a screen for the door. It attaches with a tension rod and it is easy to walk in and out of.
My screen was almost $30, but I found this one on Amazon that attaches with velcro. The 36 inch is $11.70 but the 48 inch is $11.12. The reviews say the velcro it comes with is not very strong, but you can pick up industrial strength velcro for about $2.
I wanted to post it not because the deal is AMAZING, but because the idea of it is AMAZING. It makes our summers so much better because I can send the kids out to play without having to worry about them letting all the flies in.
*They also make retractable screens that you can put in your windows. You stretch the screen out to fit the width of the window and pull the window down until it sits on top of the screen. I picked up a few at Walmart in 2008.
Don’t forget you can sign up for Amazon Mom or Amazon Student for FREE and get free 2 day shipping on ANY purchase.

This sounds silly but the new doors now that are being sold at Lowe’s and other places actually have the screen door on the inside. So you open it first before you open the regular door. They are storm doors and keep wind/elements out of the house. Our new door we purchased 2 years ago does this. I hated it at first because I have cats. But I can remove the screen for the winter (forgot this year and yelled at the cats a lot, won’t happen again!). As the wind pushes on the door (or snow, or rain) it seals it shut more. That way the screen isn’t ruined from the elements and the door seals out the elements. I now love the door!
I had been looking for something like this when I was still living in CA. My door didn’t have a screen door, and only had one major window (studio apartment). That definitely would’ve kept things cooler!
oddly enough I was just talking to my husband this week about researching and ordering a screen like this. Our back door opens out as well so no way to use a screen door. Our front door has a nice screen door but our kids play on the back deck. I like to be able to have the door open so i can see, hear and get to them within a couple of steps. Thanks for the info.
Glad I could help!
We have french doors. Do you think this would work for them?
You could probably make it work!
I had seen these before and wondered if they worked well! We cant put a screen door on our back door because their isnt enough room and would be nice to have one in the summer. Thanks for the informaition
